the 780G from AMD are workign wonders for office and HTPC. they are brilliant baords, as are the nvidia 8200 boards. (both for AM2+)

and with the new SB750 southbridge on the 790GX the 9950X4 and 9850X4 are clocking well, and for their price, they are doing well when clocked. infact as they clock up, they have an exponential increase in power, rather then liner (weird init?, ill try to find the link). heres hoping deneb (the 45nm chips from AMD, IICR for AM3) will try to rival nahelam.

    lol

I need to learn the secret arts of OCing from him.

I'm decent enough at the basic stuff. But I need to be better versed in the more advanced stuff.

BTW, have I told you? 3Ghz at 1.25v. Pretty proud of that considering it's a 65nm quad core.

My bad, I mixed up the 2 and and 3s.

    No it's a 65nm Quad core. Unfortunately :(

Because if anybody gets too deep with overclocking, he gets dragged out of his hidey-hole! :)

Well if he doesn't it's fine.

Hey MORT, you know about all those advanced options in the Asus boards?

    boozer,

a little but not like I should yet. I'm still learning as well and haven't taken the time to figure out ALL the little voltage and dram tweaks on these new mobos. I have played with the PL (performance level) and know the lower you can get it, the better. I don't know if this is a common feature on X38, X48 mobos or available only on high end asus mobos. I do know the PL makes a big difference in performance, similiar to a fairly big jump in cpu freq, from what I've read.

at the moment I'm running at stock. I was trying to find the best bios for my Q9450 and haven't done anything in the bios except set the dram freq and voltage and adjust my fan speeds.

I've been busy negotiating for a new ride and haven't had time to mess with me pc.

Well it doesn't matter anyway. Only reason I'm running at 3Ghz is because Sam wanted too run benchmarks. Otherwise I don't feel like OCing on this cooler, because one of the screws attaching it to the board are broken.

I'm too cheap for that! Every dollar counts.

Anyway, I got them in the mail today :) I'll install it properly soon enough.

boozer I don't think it matters. ;) you guys can get on mIRC, MSN chat, or whatever and say those things to your hearts content. Remember it's still a tech site and other people reading the comments DON'T know what ethnic background we are and it doesn't matter anyway. ;)

My take on things at least. :)
