Stable is the difference between an accurate computer and one that turns on to display you your wallpaper thingy. If you don't have a stable computer then you don't have a rig that you can trust. How can your rig accurately compute anything when it can't assess primes? Remember that a CPU is a mathematical processors and the brains to a system.
Sophocles, Accurate! That's the word I was looking for (shoulda Googled it)! LOL!! A computer that cannot complete the work units, is not an Accurate computer regardless of whether it meets your needs or passes 12 hours of Occt or Orthos! I've had mine fail to complete the WUs after 24 hours of Prime95. Once adjusted properly in the setup so the WUs complete, you know it's rock stable! Best Regards, Russ
I'm intending to buy a Q6600 G0 very shortly, so would be after some advice on how best to wring some extra performance out of that. I'm hoping to run about 3.5-3.6Ghz on it, which will see my RAM at native speed (800mhz), and I've seen a lot people pull this off with 1.39-1.43Vcore, so hopefully I'll be able to do the same. Those who know their way around Gigabyte boards or 65nm quad overclocking, I'd very gladly appreciate some tips!
Sammy as soon as I make sure this DFI/Q6600 is stable at stock then I'll see what I can do with the OC. You gonna thro that Q6600 on the DS4? .....gm
Good stuff.. Having owned the same CPU, you should be useful! 3Dmark may not be that accurate, but it does provide a telling picture of CPU limitation: 1280x1024: 14,106 3dmarks 2560x1600, 4xAA, 16xAF: 10,750 3dmarks Oh dear.
Nothing to a gigabyte board. If you can get used to the memory speed being linked to the FSB instead of being set independent of it you'll be fine.
Already know roughly how that works, I have overclocked my Dual core on it, but mainly using auto settings, all I set was 355FSB, enabled auto voltages, and set memory multipler to 2.00D.
Yeah start high, then lower it if it doesnt work, compared to everyone else that starts small and works their way up!!! Sorry, I didnt just sound like theonejrs there did I... LOL
Lol. Well I think I'm going to start in the middle and work up like I did before, I don't really want to go resetting CMOSes early!
cheers ddp i shall mature and sam technially my name is mohammad, but i prefer my middle name shaffaaf back on topic. i have never crashed at 3.4 so, you know what, untill i do, temps wont make a difference
sammorris, Your motherboard has a bunch more adjustments on it than mine has to begin with. It has a fairly comprehensive bios in it, so you can fine tune it a bit more! Happy Computering, Russ
abuzar1, I don't think it's that! I think it's more of his circumstances than anything. He needs to be a bit conservative as he "needs" the computer! for school. While he could work around potential troubles by having to use his laptop, Laptops are far from an ideal daily computer. They are quite good today, but you are still somewhat limited in what you can do with them compared to a fast desktop with great graphics. I think this is the first opportunity Sam has had to get more into overclocking! I'm personally going to throttle the first person that suggests to him to just set his Q6600 to 3.6GHz. The automatic settings in the bios are all hardware, not software and they are surprisingly good. I was able to get my E4300 to 3.0GHz using them, just for grins, when I first built it. I wanted to see how well they worked. You can also modify any of the adjustments after you've set the automatics, so they're still tweakable! Happy Computering, Russ
