When I first got my P35C-DS3R, I put my E4300 straight at 3Ghz, without trying anything in between. After realising I'd forgotten to set the memory multiplier, it worked like a charm. A day or two's testing at 3 gigs sent me straight to the 3.15 I've been using up until this week when I moved to 3.2Ghz. When I made the transition to the X38-DS4 I put it at 3.15 without a care in the world 'I'll see if it works' I thought to myself, and it did! Fine tuning is all well and good, but when I could get results like that in mere seconds, I didn't see the need!

Hey Imran, do you know pin mods for Socket 478 Celerons?

I'm only posts away from AD Addict. lol. BUT I've tried like heck to keep from doing that, you know the worthless posting like we've just seen. hehehe. :p

    Russ and Sammy,
The upper end mobos from what I can tell have many more features than the lower end mobos do. ;) I know that my GB P35-DS3P has more than the DS3R model. lol.

    Sammy,
You liking the X38-DS4? It seems pretty good and I'm sure that you'll have plenty of settings to learn about. ROFL.. :p

i know there's a mod for Celeron's that have a 400mhz fsb and you can clip off a pin to get 533mhz (similar to the laptop mod)
but if its a 533mhz fsb / 800mhz fsb cpu, then no, there's no mod

if its a 400mhz fsb celeron, let me know and i will post the pic of the mod...

    deadrum33,
Is there an "Echo" in here? LOL!!

    sammorris,
Not everyone needs or wants every last MIP! Especially considering that heat is the determining factor in the useful life of a CPU. It's like Radiation! It's cumulative! You could run an 80% OC for a couple of years, and then stick it in something for you Mom or Dad at stock speeds and the cause of death when it eventually dies will be still be cumulative heat!

at those speeds why are you overclocking ? there seems to be no need

1.8 to 3.2? You're surely not questioning that?
2.4 to 3.6 is still substantial, with a quad.

    pcrepair,
With some overclockers, they want the best possible overclock they can get. I think it's an ego thing! I've always said, "how fast is fast"! I mean there's a motherboard Sophocles mentioned that has a dry ice chamber for running benchmarks at wild speeds. You can't make any use of it as a computer, so you gain nothing but a puffed up chest!

I'm seriously thinking about doing an AMD Phenom Quad build next! The high end 9850 2.5GHZ Black Edition is now under $200, and overclocks from about 3.0 to 3.2gHz. You can also get the 2.6GHz version, but it doesn't OC any better so why spend the extra money. I love the modern socket AM2 4800+ 64x2 I have now. It's the first computer I've used that doesn't leave me longing for more speed. And it's as bone stock as you can get! Mind you I'm comparing it to my everyday E6750/DS3R that's overclocked about 900MHz at 3.55GHz and 1GHz faster than the 4800+!

One of these CPUs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103249 On one of these motherboards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128335 will set you back less than $300, and you're getting HD 3200 Graphics on board, DVI to DVI! Invest in a Freezer 64 and 4GB of DDR2/800 ram and you're still under $400. Pretty good value if you ask me!

    Happy Computering,
    Russ

Not bad for the money Russ. ;) Have you looked at the T-force Biostar mobos for the AMD AM2+ socket?? Not to bad buddy. ;)

Ok... got some news on the OC for the DFI/Q6600 rig. ;) I took it to 2.75GHz so far and it seems ok... ran OCCT and Sandra so far and I'm happy but I'll read up more on the BIOS and figure some more settings to get more OC. ;) More, more, more.... lol. If anyone has the DFI X48-TR2 mobo be my guest to add "input"... it's got plenty of goodies that's for sure. lol. :p

It's not bad, but I think I'd take a Q6600 and P45-DS3R, get it to 3.6 ish on an Ultima-90 with a high speed fan if I had the same money. Call me an Intel fan, but raw performance, especially in games would place a 3.6Ghz Q6600 well in excess of a Phenom at any realistic speed.

looks nice GM..for some dumb reason i thought the Q6600 was stock 2.66ghz.here's my sign.
wow those temps look familiar, thought i might have sent you my CPU instead of back to intel..lol

    greensman,
I used to use those motherboards for customer AMD Builds. I like the GigaByte better, it has more features for the same money! Besides, all I need is the MB and CPU so you're looking at upgrading for under $200!
