im1992 - you do need to fix that page-sized signature. Signatures are for life, not just for Christmas Day.

    Merry Christmas to all btw!.

Sammy the ever positive.... LOL. :p

So where are those AMD OC benchies?? I need some linkys you slackers... hehehee. ;) I'm really thinking about AMD on the next build for economies sake but I want to see if they will compare when it comes to DVD RB Pro and things like that. I don't game on the computer at this point so it seems that talk of that sort is almost moot for me. ;)

From that translated review, the Phenom II 940 seems to perform around the level of the Q9400 in some of the tests, and around the level of the Q9650 in the others, depending on the program. The difference between the 920 and 940 didn't seem very big either, so if the 920 is much cheaper, that may be the chip to go for, especially if it has similar overclocking performance to the 940. All depends on the application you use I suppose. This is certainly the most favourable review I've seen so far. I'm still going to reserve judgement until the CPU is actually released.

    GM,
The link is in the PC Building thread as they are not overclocked. Just stock vs stock!

A little hard to read due to the translation from Greek, but you'll get the general idea!

Happy new year everyone and Hello again to Russ(Theonejnr),

I'm upgrading my memory finally and have decided upon Corsair as the brand. What I want to know is whats the difference between 2gig sticks and 1gig sticks, ultimatelly I want 4 gig total but dont know wether to buy 4 sticks at 1 gig each or 2 sticks at 2 gigs each...?

Also will these memory modules all work in my rig:

    Corsair DDR2 2GB PC-6400/800 (2x XMS2 1GB) TWIN2X2048-6400C4 Ram
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=115_23&products_id=19913

    Corsair DDR2 2GB PC-6400/800 PRO (2x XMS2 1GB) TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO Ram
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=115_23&products_id=19915

    Corsair DDR2 4GB PC-6400/800 (2x XMS2 2GB) TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX Ram
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=115_23&products_id=31517

    Best Wishes,

    Sheeny (Sam).

Good to hear from you again. If you are overclocked it would be best to only populate 2 memory slots, rather than 4. I would choose 1066 memory so if the opportunity comes along for an inexpensive 1333MHz processor, you are ready. After seeing the prices in Australia, I'm not so sure. Here, you can get 2x2 GB 1066 Corsair Dominators for $69! There's also a $30 MIR, so they wind up costing $39 for 4GB of very good 1066 RAM! The same memory is $194 there! Ouch!!!

Maybe you should find out what limits there on "Birthday Presents" are, and get someone in the States to send them to you as a gift. I can't imagine there would be any problem with about a $40 gift. If I was doing it, I would test them first to be sure there were no bad sticks, and send them as used memory, as a gift. Can't hurt to check. Not at those prices! Don't be such a stranger. PM me your email addy so I can drop you a line once in a while.

    Happy New Year,
    Russ

    DDR2 1066 Ram is really OC'd DDR2 800.
If you can get the known good stuff for minimal price, why not recommend it?

That memory will work fine with his board. I used to use 1000mhz RAM on my 956P-DS3 and I had to overclocked to higher than 1066mhz. Deadrum is right, it's all overclocked 800mhz memory anyway.

If you have a GA-965P-S3 like he has, you have to be sure it's the Rev 3.3 board. The Rev 1.0 won't do 1066 RAM. Actually it will by overclocking, but with an 800MHz chip, it's all but useless on that MB as it didn't have the native 1333 fsb. I was talking to him last night/this morning and his S3 is rev 3.3 so he can upgrade later to a 1333MHz CPU with no problem.

If you remember, that's how I wound up with the P35-DS3R, because my 965P-DS3 Rev 1.33 didn't support the advertised 1333 bus! It was fine with the 800MHz memory, but it wouldn't handle the 1066. memory bandwidth suffered too by about 30%. The rev 1.33 I had was a rarity in the US and wasn't the same specs as the rev 3.3 sold here. The 1.33 wasn't even listed on the US site!

Thanks Russ for your wisdom on these things. So what other (cheaper) alternative do I have to the Dominator, I still want the same sort of performance though and I'm not bothered by brand names!

    Hey there,
I guess the Blue GSkill Cas 5
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166
Or the OCZ Reapers Cas 5
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227289

Of course that depends on the cost if you buy there in Australia

    Best Regards,
    Russ
