@Bigwill68, Well I'm not sure what the stepping is I'm guessing that's
on the chip itself but the batch number is Q832A366. Yes that is the memory i have 2x2gig sticks and i have them on slots 1 and 3. I need to say that i new to this overclocking.I brought it back down to 3.6. I figured I'll leave it there till i figure out how to get my memory up to its rated speed or better. Cincyrob had stated that his 800mhz was running at 1066 with a 400mhz strap and 2.66d multiplier. I'm Currently at a multiplier of 2.00d with no strap. like i stated before i tried to just change the multiplier to something that would get my memory at least to it stated speed but the system became unstable. So i'm guessing i'm going to have to also adjust the the strap setting. I'm Running the F6 bios on my mobo atm.

The strap is the letter D, which signifies 400mhz.

ok i figured it out.i put the Frequency Latch at 400mhz and the Memory multiplier at 2.66d and now my memory is at 1066. Phew i need to get the bios tweaks names and what they do in order. But now im at 1066 what my memory is rated. Ill try to push just a little more.

your running it now at 2.00d which will have you running under your rated speed.try the 2.66d as i am and it should get you to your 1066 rated speed. once at the 2.66d your ratio should be 5:6 i think it is.

as for your CPU. your batch number is well over the Q820???'s which is a EO stepping my batch # is Q819xxx which is around the last of the CO stepping. id say with your CPU you shouldn't have no problem with getting 3.8-3.9ghz. just up your Vcore a little not much and work with your mem a little to get it set just right at your 1066 rated speed. if i was you i would try for the higher CPU OC first with your mem under clocked. then get the CPU stable and then work on the mem.

that EO E8400 will do 4.0ghz and a little higher but will require some good voltage to it. your not gonna see much difference from 3.8 to 4.0 other than some large numbers in benchmark testing you wont notice the +200mhz difference....myself haven the CO stepping i can run 3.85ghz with some high(not over rated volts) volts but i cant tell the difference. even using dvd-rebuilder i only see a minute of time shaved off from using 3.85ghz

from everyone Ive talked with about the E8400, 3.6ghz is its sweet spot easy to achieve and easy to maintain. dint rack your brain trying to get more out of it like i did. this is a great chip and 3.6ghz ain't no slouch of a OC. i haven't had to change anything in my bios since i have left my OC to 3.6ghz. my temps havent changed volts are the same. other than me messing with my ODD i have had no reason to get inside my case to work on anything.

if you have your 1066mem running stable at that speed i wouldnt try to increase it more. all 1066mem is loosend up ddr2 800 mem you might be able to get a little more out of them but not enough to worry about, causeing you headaches of going back and trying more settings and volts and such.

Good thing you said the Cincyrob. I started to try to push the memory a bit and yes instability would not boot. So i have the memory at 1066 atm at 1.8v and i dropped the cpu volts back to stock 1.23. System booted right up no prblems. Im going to run occt for 30 minutes to give and estimate on my temps ill report it as soon as its done..

By the way if there is another program better than occt to try please feel free to advise..

Sam, I just saw your post before your edited it!lol. The bit about GTA4... I have the game and have never had any lag on it?, thats with all maxed out settings except the view distance which is almost on max...

Have to agree with the bit about the coding of PC games though... very dire..

Ok occt is done. Now im currently trying the intel burn test software.
Then i will post results. I have a question though. If im correct 32bit software wont identify 4gigs of ram. Correct me if im wrong. Im currently looking over my mobo instructions cause i swear i read that there was a stting to have the os identify the 4gigd. This sound right?

Not really, 64-bit OSes can do it, 32-bit ones can't, that's about all there is to it really.

The reason it wouldn't boot was because you exceeded your memory limit. The highest you can go at 2.66D will be about 420mhz FSB I expect, which will net you 3.7-3.8.

@ Sammorris, If were talking about the cpu i had it to 3.9 @1.24 and did 30m of occt. The temps on that i have on file also i believe it was 54-57 it fluctuated. I had asked if these temps were alright. But i backed it backed to 3.6 and these are my temps. now as you see.
