What do you think I would get back if I RMA my E6300 with Intel? They don't make the E6300 anymore...or even any other E6x00 or E6xx0 CPUs for that matter. Will I get a new cpu back or will I get an old one? no, the latest bios doesnt even let me overclock the E6300 so i am using ver 1504 which is the best bios for the striker in my opinion (oc wise)... thx.
OLD cpus!!! That doesnt seem right. Forbid a customer get a better replacement. I thought it was common practice to replace with same or BETTER!
It is when they don't have better. Try and replace a Pentium D Smithfield these days and you ain't gonna get a like replacement, but the E6320 has not long been out of production, so they MIGHT replace it with that. No guarantees though, you could end up with something like an E5200, and you would be much better off if you did.
I paid to dang much. lol. I think it was something like $175 with delivery and all. I'm running a Q6600 with B3 stepping which isn't good btw. lol. I'm at a comfortable 3.0 on air but that is about the norm for that chip on air. hth.... ....gm
thanks gm, well i just paid $180 with shipping and tax for the x48 i just got soooo i still paid 5 bucks more then you did. i really dont like waiting so i just got it. -im1992 so what do you think i will get in return for my e6300? Actually Sam, the last review on newegg for the E6320 was last year in March so it has been out of production for AT LEAST 1 year... I am not trying to get into a fight with you so please don't take this defensively.
Intel keeps a large number of any chip still in warranty, just for such purposes. They very rarely run out. I was hoping for the same thing with mine and wishing for an E6850! LOL!! 3.2GHz for the E6300 chip is about average, with a lot depending on the MB as to how well it OC's and the binning of the individual chip! Some will barely reach 3GHz, while others may go as high as 3.8GHz or more. Best Regards, Russ
im1992, More than likely you will still get an E6300! It was a very popular chip, so chances are very good that they still have plenty of them in stock. Best Regards, Russ
According to what Intel told me they have some fairly large numbers of discontinued chips, depending on the sales of particular chips. The E6300 was a very popular chip, so I would imagine they would have plenty of them. When I replaced the D-940 last year, they still had plenty of those in stock, and I got a D-940 as my replacement. I don't think that waiting 3-4 months will help. More like two years! Russ
if i rma my e6300 right now and get an e6300 back will i get another 3 year warranty on that? and the e6300 i get back, will it be brand new, sealed?
No, the warranty just continues from the date of the original purchase! It will be a new boxed one, with cooler, so you have to return the stock cooler as well. An OEM, CPU only carries a 1 year warranty, while the Boxed version is 3 years! That's why I never get rid of the box and cooler! Russ
okay, do they actually test the cpu? to see if it actually is faulty? if not, then i will be returning my e6300, getting the new one from intel, selling it, and then buying an e5200 is this worth it? will the e5200 overclock any higher than 3ghz? -im1992
It should do quite a bit better than 3.0GHz. The E5200 is an 800MHz FSB E8400 with 1/3 the L2 cache (2MB vs 6MB). The FSB is slower at 800MHz vs 1333MHz for the E8400. Some of that is compensated for by the 12.5x multiplier of the E5200. The Multiplier on the E8400 is 9x, but the FSB is much faster. The lack of L2 cache hurts a bit, but the E5200 is still quite fast, regardless! Russ
