    Sam,
LOL!! I've made a mental note not to buy any CPU that isn't a Black Edition. I wouldn't want to even think of the fun it would be with a fixed multiplier trying to OC on of these puppies! LOL!! For stock, you don't need it, but for overclocking it's mandatory!

WELL once i get my hands on some 1066 mem should i change the mem strapping to 400 and get the max out of it or leave it at 333???

always leave the strapping at 400FSB as that's closest to the FSB you're using - you will have to keep the memory multiplier the same too as the next one up from 2.00D is 2.66D, which will make your RAM 1066mhz at 400FSB - unlike PC6400, PC8500 does not overclock at all well.

isnt that why you go up to 1066 cause you wont need to OC it much if any at all? i could push my ddr2 800 now and try to run them at 900mhz but i dont think they will. if i had 1066 mem i would actually be underclocking them to run at 3.83ghz 451x8.5=3833mhz. hence putting hte mem at 902mhz

3.83ghz is where i want it at. wouldnt mind trying 4.0+ but dont have the desire like i did with the E8400...lol i just want the HEMI
would love to have it running at 502mhz 4.26ghz that would be a true HEMI.....you mopar guys know what im talking about..lmao

That is indeed the point, with a 2.00 multiplier, PC8500 memory allows up to an FSB of 533 - ample as the maximum safe FSB for intel CPUs is about 505.
450x8.5 = 3825 is where I had my CPU, but the voltages required for it are pretty steep with dual graphics and the weaker X48 chipset. P45 shouldn't be too hard, 1.3V on the NB and CPU should get you there.

my memory strap is at 2.66D which places my memory at 1133. Is this to high and if so should i lower it? if so to what? my Q9550 is at 3.6 and everything runs fine. the memory i have are the CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1066.

502x8.5 is where my utlimate goal would be..lol
but iwill be totally happy with 451x8.5

think i will look into some 2x2gb dominators or gskill for this gigabyte board.

If your memory can handle that speed, that's great, but that's not common and it is on the edge of instability.

i am not trying to kill my Q9550 or the anything else for that matter so i am fine at 3.6.

you won't damage your CPU by the RAM being too fast. If you've no issues there then leave it, but if you push higher you should cut your multiplier back to 2.0

ok thanks sam but is not the point to try and keep the memory as close to stock speed as you can?

Nope, it's not to exceed the stock speed by very much. Memory speed isn't vastly important to performance.

Red Ice your mem is at 1133 and your cpu is only at 3.6???? my Q9550 is at 3.7ghz and my mem is only at 872
that would mean your freq is at 566 hell at 566x8.5 that would put ya almost 5.0ghz(4.81) maybe im missing something here??

I think the Dominators will run at 1133MHz. I know mine will! I have the 2x2GB/1066MHz ones. If it runs and passes Orthos or some other program like that, then leave it be! If it doesn't, try loosening the memory timings to 6-6-6-24. It sounds like to me that it's running OK at 1133, and if that's the case, smile and leave it alone!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

yeah i am going to leave it be because its running fine now and it passed the IntelBurnTest on the level 1 with 5 passes. however, if anything happens i will give the memory timings a try.
