Sam, At $99 for the 4000+ (OEM) and no socket 939 x2 3800+ to be found anywhere for less than $139, and still having to buy The Freezer 64, I took this route. It's a home/office machine and won't be overclocked, so I thought the 4000+ would fit the bill nicely. If I switched to AM2 then everything would wind up being more expensive. It's going to be used mostly for Word processing, spreadsheets and Quickbooks. Since these are all single threaded apps, it really doesn't gain very much with the x2 3800+! Happy Computering, theone
think i am going to upgrade too the Opteron 185 .if anyone comes across any great deals on them let me know thanks guys
aabbccdd, Here's the cheapest price I could find for the 185! http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2513653&CatId=2040 $349 is even tempting me! Especially since there's no sales tax! Happy Computering, theone
aabbccdd, You're most welcome! I put it in the Bargain Bin over at the Hounds! Make that FX-62 from what I'm hearing! Happy Computering, theone
Compare that CPU 185 to mine which is alot better I realize but please give me some insight... In gaminig- Photoshop [soon to learn]multi-tasking and anything else- was going to go to the 4800+ dual core but that 185 really seems nice ...but what is my gain? the more the info the better!
herrick, Nothing much! Only AMD's best socket 939 dual-core CPU! It's a better FX-60! It's the Top AMD 939 CPU and it overclocks better than the FX-60! That would be some pretty good gains, don't you think? The Quality at the Opteron level is far less dependent on getting lucky because the standards for the cores are higher than they are for any other AMD chips! Only the best pass! Within reason, most will perform at the same level so you can be reasonably sure of getting excellent performance. It's also $110 cheaper than the FX-60 How long they will be available is the question. Right now the 185 is the hottest selling CPU because it's become an $800 upgrade for all the AMD servers out there running 165 and 170 processors that all have Dual-Socket 939 motherboards. Once that market exhausts itself, then AMD will stop production! As long as they are selling, the price will keep coming down. I had told myself a long time ago that when the price fell under $400 I would buy one. Now it's at $349. It's awful tempting to me! Happy Computering, theone
They wouldn't sell them if they didn't, ad that makes you realise just how much profit they were making before...
sammorris, Not really as it's just a matter of thier price from AMD going down. Most companies have a fixed percentage that's added to thier buy cost. For sure they made more money before but it cost them more too! Happy Computering, theone
GTR35, Did you get the e-mails? If you got it working, what did you think? Just curious as everybody's musical tastes are different. Great sound system test though! Happy Computering, theone
