so are those pictures specific for my case, if so wow. Sorry but hang in there since this is my first time so I don't know alot if any at all. I was looking at this psu and is it compatible with the case I suggested. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=290214
OK thank you, regarding the cpu and motherboard, I decided to get the intel core 2 duo e6600 and the motherboard I read the previous post and you recommended the asus p5wd-h deluxe but scan.co.uk does not do it so I came up with http://www.scan.co.uk/search/search.asp?criteria=asus+p5wd which is two different ones so which one is better. Again the same noob question is the cpu and motherboard all compatible with the list so far.
I have to confess I've not seen that board before. It should be compatible with the E6600 as it uses the 975X chipset.
Scan do the P5WDH it is here at £133 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=434311 The other boards are more work machines, very good but not as good in gaming scores
Thanks I now looking at ram and is http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=402849 good enough and suitable with my motherboard.
Gradually getting there now the final touches. For the rest I got: Hard Drive - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=530765 CD/DVD writer - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Prod...terMaxPrice=&FilterManufacturers=86&OrderBy=1 Sorry not sure which one. CD/DVD reader - sorry which one do you suggest from scan.co.uk Video card - not sure if I need a good one since gaming will be rare on my machine, so a cheapy one will do but again please suggest. Sound card - Again music will be listened to but gaming will be rare so I think this one will do but not sure. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=503577 Cables - Will I need any cables since I'm new to this, so cables eg socket cables, motherboard cables etc.
All good choices. Cables usually come with your motherboard and power supply, so don't worry about that.
Sorry for double post but for cd/dvd reader I got http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=161182 and for video card I got http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=518627 and other suggestions.
hi sammorris the 3.4 dualcore p4 is faster than the 4200 amd dualcore another bit of knowledge not a lot faster on 3dmark06 but quite a bit on pcmark been wondering for ages so i built one to see
TO: "BigDK" It shows you run the E6600. What sSpec no. do you run and how different are the 2 revisions ? I got "1" labeled sSpec no. SL9ZL but I also see a sSpec no. SL9S8 floating around but under the same Step code of "B2". As far as I can tell is voltage range range in auto speedstep mode. What do you notice in yours?
pcrepair, Maybe at stock settings but the 4200 will run rings around the D-940 overclocked. I know, I have a D-940 and sam's got a 4200! His Sandra scores are a lot better than mine. Happy Computering, theone
Again as I stated earlier, most good mobos come with quit good onboard audio (asus anyway). I know the P5W DH Deluxe does. I run klipsch desktop speaker system (one of the best desktop speaker manufactures there is) and could see no reason for a sound card upgrade. Onboard audio sounds great. Just trying to save you some money. You don't have to listen to me though. It's your money. I do recomend buying round cables for your IDE drives and floppy if you use one. The ribbon cables that come with the mobo clutter up your case, restrict air flow, aren't near as flexible, and are not cosmetically pleasing.
No need to spend good money on pre fab rounded cabling as they are ofet just flat ribbon cables folded in sach a way to wrap then and make them more atractive. You can do this yourself and even be more creative. Also if done right, you may choose not to wrap em at all as they tend to hold their shape well if folder in quarters like "W", or you my wrap in a wide choice of color UV treated net for a lighting effect. Then the rounded cables that come as stripped ribbon (80 wires bundled together) are often cased in a stiff rubber that is usually to stiff to manage and will require tying off to keep it from flopping out of place as they don't hold a bend that well. Just something to consider, No change to performance, just ease of install and added apearence.
Someone who braids his own cables, I'm much too lazy for that! Having said that, I am contemplating UV braiding my PSU cables. Most of them are modular so it'll be a doddle to do. Might order that along with a Thermalright HR-03 and Nexus 92mm case fan for my Graphics card.
