    Hey there ddp.
Haven't been messing with my pc's much lately but have been extending my network, now have 3 routers running dd-wrt with WPA over WDS (don't you just hate acronyms) LOL .
dd-wrt is sexy, in a nerdy kind of way :p

i added the dd-wrt talk just to stay on topic :)

I've got an old 3.5 taken out of an old Win98 machine, I but it in this new Computer because I ran into a problem with a Bios flash that only install from a Floppy. Anyway all it want to do is format in Fat32,after its formatted the drive tells me Disc is not formatted
Won't let me write to it is their different types of 3.5 drives or is this just maybe a faulty drive

    rick5446,
    That's a 720MB disk with only 1 hole. 1.44s have 2 square holes!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

Ah but have you ever seen a 720k disk with two holes ?.
I have, back in the day when we collected Super Nintendo games (before the days of cd's) we often drilled holes in the top corner of 720k disks, the other corner to where the write protect hole was, ie to make the disk look like a 1.4MB disk. What i can't remember is whether those disks were formatted to 1.6MB, or whther we just formatted 1.4MB to 1.6MB. This was to fit the bigger games on the disks :)

    creaky,
We used to do the same thing with the 5.25s with a hole punch. The big problem with converting the 720s to 1.44s was consistency as the media used wasn't the right formulation for double density. I also remember a little program that you could choose about 10-12 different formats all the way to 2.88MB for the 1.44s and read them on a 1.44! LOL!! Memories! ROFLMAO!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

You're too young fella me lad :)
well maybe not quite, it was the early 90's. I still have my 'Super Wildcard' which is almost that old.

(and to keep myself on topic, you connected the Wildcard to a pc thru the parallel port) :)

Well, seemingly, but I've used plenty of 1.44s in my time, and if I knew how to get 2.88MB out of them, I would have thanked the person that told me very much indeed!

    sammorris,
IBM had their own format for their then new PS2 line of computers that were 2.88. BTW! That's where the PS2 connectors came into being, not with the Play Station 2! It wasn't the same format I could put on my 1.44s to make them 2.88s. Mine could be read on any 1.44 drive. Formatting the 1.44s at 1.66 seemed to work the best!

theonejrs. No its a 1.4, one of the holes is square (see through, the other is rectangle W/slide block down is solid/up see through)..Also I've never seen a 720 with HD stamp

Microsoft had a special format program to copy Windows, I'm pretty sure its the 1 your talking about (1.44 to 1.66)if U didn't have this U could not copy the 7 or 8 Disc set. Now don't waste time on correcting me on the disc amount if I'm wrong. Ya'll know what I mean. I think I've still got it somewhere

Haha yeah I know PS/2 isn't the playstation... lol
However, IIRC there were also VX120 120MB floppy disks? I remember electing the standard version over the 120 on my first PC back in 1999, and I'm glad I did, the VX120s didn't seem to take off!

    rick,

those usb flash drives will work with most newer mobos as long as the pc can read it while in the bios. you might dig up a manual for the mobo and see what it says.
