I've had few issues with Automatic Updates, although I choose when to download them and pick only what I want to add. M$ has gotten less friendly though! The first time I had a problem after an update, M$ used Remote computer to fix the problem. The last time I got India! They wanted $74 to even talk to me, even though I explained that it was their upgrade that caused the problem. They told me that I had no software warranty, that it had expired. I argued that it was their brand new update, which was new software that caused the problem, but got nowhere! I wound up fixing it myself!

windows 7 is not being rushed out.

IICR, MOST windows releases were every 3 years or so, then vista took about 6, and came out in jan 2007. windows 7 is now going to be release IICR jan 10, and if my math is right, thats about 3 years....

the only rushed OS was XP, a year after ME, becuase ME was so bad.

by the way the core of windows 7 is vista, its just more optomised to run on crapper hardware, and shiney new UI.

also russ your still gonna have to learn the 20 things to get to one place where 3 woudl do in XP :D

Actually I find it's the other way around. Vista is more intuitive, and once you learn it it gets things done faster than XP.

The Stockholders and Board members are not going to stand for Jan 10! that's why I said June 09, as it's what they want! Since their money is paying the bills I suspect!

It's not a matter of having to learn a new OS, It's questioning why we need all the extra moves to do the simplest things! It's sort of like "Phone Book" referencing. You know! Like under "Johnson:see Johnston;Jonsen;etc" and totally unnecessary. The saving grace with Win 7 is you get to make a lot of those choices for yourself on most of the elements included. It seems that they went back to the basic windows icons with 7 as well, from the example pictures I've seen.

The core of Win 7 is not Vista! It has some design elements of Vista in it, but in many ways it should prove to be a superior OS to Vista. Win 7 is designed more around the MB hardware, components and chipsets than ever before. One of the first benefits noted, was all the Startup items and drivers will load simultaneously instead of individually, so boot up times will be much shorter, perhaps as short as 15 seconds! I think we could all go for that!

Why do you say crappier hardware? The hardware is controlled by the drivers. An X48 MB would still be the same MB whether it had Vista or not! If you buy crappy hardware, you pay the price in lost performance, same as always.

Actually that should read "Crappier Software" as if Windows was written in Machine Language, you would have the computer of your dreams right now! Fast beyond your wildest imagination! None of that C++ crap we have to endure now with either OS! That's where all the Bloat is, and C++ is slow! many many times slower than Machine language in execution! We can only dream! The hardware is more than up the task, unfortunately it has to wait for the slower software!

i agree. there are two many clicks to do very simple things. like in xp when you right click on the desktop and select properties you get al the desktop options in a box with tabs. in vista it takes me longer to change the settings because of the way the menus are set up.

from what i have read windows seven is based off of the windows server 2008 kernel. i am using server 2008 as my main os right now and i love it. it is so much faster and more responsive than vista. this gives me hope that windows 7 will be really good.

Same as me except I went from 98se to 2000-Pro to XP-Pro. I liked 2000-Pro, but drivers for it were a bit of a nightmare! I always wondered why, as drivers aren't that difficult to write? In the DOS days, we had to write our own anyway! We also had to write our own config.sys and autoexec.bat files, or none of the hardware would work at all! There was no Plug & Play! LOL!!

well im throwing my hat in the ring for Win98 also.. loved it.was sceptical when 2000 came out then loved it.. hated when XP came out then got my HP system(that im on now) and it had XP home on it.. love it...lol....

and if i found out tomorrow that vista and its driver issues has caused my problems i am haven now. that vista disc is gettin shatterd ino 1000 peices....

im gonna take out the 250 ide hdd put it in my HP rig reformat it wipe it clean and then tr a fresh install on it and see if that fixes the problem. i cant get into bios to change which hdd to boot up to so i figure a fresh install on that drive might fix the problem...if not that then im truely thinking its the GPU

No, actually Windows 7 has the same core as vista.

Here is a quote from Steve Ballmer.

I have Windows 7 Build 6801 downloading right now. I'll let you know how that runs on my 5 year old computer with an AMD Athlon XP. Unfortunately this is an older build without the taskbar.

Just for grins keep hitting the F12 key during the post. That should bring up the Boot Menu! Most computers work that way!

Alright, so that's exactly what I have been saying. They are all based around Windows NT6. All they are doing is improvements to the OS but the core is still NT6(or 6.1 in Windows 7's case).

its like how XP was based on the 2000 kernal.

im sure we will see windows 7 bashing soon, though not from me, but i can here it now, oh windows 7 wont run with XXX 100 year old sound card....lool

well we shall see, i think ill partition 20GBs for it and see who i like it.

No offense, but that's impossible! 2000 was DOS based! XP was it's own operating system totally unrelated to DOS!

    Windows 2000= NT 5.0
    Windows XP= NT 5.1

Definitely based on the same core. Just Like Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Russ, what you are thinking of is Windows ME. That was based on DOS.
