Yes, I got it for Christmas in 2002. I'm not looking to replace anything in this system.

Wow 100 dollar quad cores? That makes it very tempting.

And with an unlocked clock multiplier. I'm already checking out some low end boards with lots of extra PCie X16 slots to build a folding rig. I figure 4 9600GSo cards should do it.

Yeah but I looked at some benchmarks and the max they can OC it too is 2.7ish. I can pick up a Q6600 for 30 dollars more and OC that to 3.4ghz easy.

and mhz for mhz that Core 2 will be slightly faster. But is it faster enough to be worth double the cost? It's certainly worth thinking about.

I'm curious, where are you buying a Q6600 for $135? The best I've seen is in the $170 to $180 range, and I'm hearing that the Phenom 9600 is hitting 3GHz. Donald of course just purchased it because he wanted a board with 4 PCIe 16 slots to stack with 8800Gs or 9600GSo cards for folding.

    Chui2k8,
You might want to check here as it sounds like you want to do pretty much what I do with a computer. There are a number of very good builds listed in the AMD Thread for under $350, even a Quad core!
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/719940
greensman posted a 4850e dual core for under $300 that would fit all your needs. This is for the whole console. Add a 22" Sceptre Naga LCD Widescreen (1680x1050), and you are right around $500! Amazing! Even if you treat yourself to a new mouse and keyboard you will be way under your budget and everything will be brand new.

This is what I plan on building as soon as I can get my E6750 sold.

For me, with all the Encoding with DVDRB/CCE it will be pretty ideal, and I don't have to overclock if I don't want to. I already have a stock CPU cooler, and with the 4850e at 45 watts and great airflow with the case, I should be in pretty good shape.

    Best Regards,
    Russ

I'm talking used ones. I know it's not too terribly fair but it's easy to get used ones and the old ones OC better anyway. I can't find any 9600 used.

But yeah people on computer forums sell their Q6600s all the time. And they have them Stable at 3.6Ghz and stuff on P35 boards.

    @Russ

well brother playing around with this board and the voltage
I got up to 4.5ghz did'nt to much care for the voltages and
did'nt pass orthos but now at 4.1ghz it did the voltage setting
are way different than Gigabyte boards on this board at 4.1
the setting gotta atlease be at:

    Vcore: +.200
    Vdimm: +.150
    Chipset : either +300 or +.325
    fsb: auto
    cpu gtlref1: 67%
    cpu gtlref2: 63%
    pll: 1.5

    cpu clock skew:200psf

now those setting surpose to for 4.4ghz at 1.384v
    but only worked a 4.1ghz at 490x8.5

Screen Shot after 45mins of stress

Sandra shot of a stress test at same setting but it's reading 4.4ghz that's stranges can you explain that?

testing at 4.0ghz with orthos now lowered the vcore to +.150
stress temps at 54c and core voltage at 1.344v lookin pretty
    good be back with results

Got anymore? Because for your claim of being able to get one for $135 to be viable anyone should be able to get one within a reasonable time frame. Anyone can grab a 9600 right now so where can I grab a Q6600 for $135 right now?

Uhh, I was just talking about myself. I just linked four of them. Microcenter had a sale where they were selling Q6600s for 105 and some motherboard.
