That's GREAT Robert... I can't wait to see how you fair with a "good" mobo. ;) If something silly doesn't happen I think that I've made a deal for a Q6700. I know it's NO Q9550 (Q9650) but it's a Quad none the less and what I wanted a while back. :)

Good luck to all with their purchases especially im!! :D

im1992 mentioned in another thread that he buys direct from intel, and at that price I would get one too lol.

Hey, a quick OT question! Anyone heard from Abuzar lately? It's like he dropped off the planet! I usually pass on Jokes and things like that, and he usually responds, but I haven't heard from him in quite a while!

I was merely suggesting the possibility of an error and wanted to express caution. I suspect that $135 for a Q9550 is probably below wholesale prices, but if he can get it for that then great.

Haha that's a good point, I hadn't eve considered the Phenoms, seems much more likely.

Russ: I chat to Abuzar on msn often. He's still about but he doesn't post here often, I think he seems quite conscious of not becoming too attached to the 'geek' crowd. IMO it's something never to be ashamed of, but hey, each to their own. I'll ask him to pop by if he doesn't mind.

There was no intention of inferring anything about anyone's post, I was just merely repeating what im told me when I asked where he got cpus at ridiculously cheap prices. And I'll be digging around to see if I know anyone who works for intel now ;)

Nope! Never been a Geek! Got into Electronics when Tubes still ruled and made the transition to Transistors, ICs and such, without difficulty. Played Sports most of my life. Baseball, Ice Hockey and Football. Computers sort of came along with Consumer Electronics, so it was a natural thing for me. More a case of being in the right place at the right time than anything else. Building a computer back in the late 80's was an adventure. There were no books, no internet and no place to go, but maybe your supplier, and that was it. The manuals, at least for the Jumper Settings, was usually pretty good You were self taught by your mistakes! Believe me when say that most motherboards had at least 50 jumpers on them, everything today that you easily set in the bios. At the prices in those days, you didn't make many mistakes. Finally General Electric came along and started a service called "Genie", so people started talking to one another on it, sort of a very basic Forum in text. You could finally chat with people all over the country without Long Distance Charges.

I guess the reason you don't see many Computer Geeks in my age bracket is because we were all older then and we were the first of many Computer Buffs to come. Geek or no, it's still Fun! ;<)

No inferences taken your post was polite and completely appropriate. I just have a need sometimes to explain my reasoning, and that's all that was.:)

You definitely need a cooler unless you're willing to put up with the stock one.

As far as I'm aware the Rampage II Extreme from Asus has the overall i7 overclocking record with the 965.
We don't hate Biostars in here, but tend to recommend other brands purely on grounds of familiarity and design.
The Biostar is actually one of the boards I had lined up for i7 if I were to switch to it. Funs have put a stop to that upgrade, but since Gigabyte boards can't do quad graphics, I'm left looking at other manufacturers.
