Agreed on the HDD, Seagates aren't very nice. The GPU is fine enough, but expensive for what it is.
    This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103077
    or ideally,this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161259
would serve you much better for the price.
The PSU is also pretty poor, and I wouldn't rely on it for a powerful gaming PC.
This is a much better unit:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008
The RAM is fine at least, the board is a bit on the cheap side though, and there are better value AMD CPUs out there too.

Essentially, seeing that you can't use newegg, here's my advice:
    If these are available:
    AMD Phenom II X4 905e
    Biostar TA790GX A3+
2x2GB PC6400 RAM from either Corsair, G-Skill, Kingston or Mushkin

If the CPU or a similar board to that isn't available then:
    Core 2 Quad Q8300/Q8400
Gigabyte EP45 board (any will do)
    2x2GB PC6400 RAM as before

For the PSU, avoid Coolermaster, Thermaltake and other cheap brands and get a Corsair, Antec, Nexus, Seasonic or OCZ. Ideally Corsair or Seasonic.
For the HDD, I'd recommend a WD, such as a WD10EADS or WD1001FALS.
The case is also a bit cheap, a Coolermaster Centurion/Cavalier, Antec Three Hundred, NZXT Alpha or similar would perform better.
The DVD drive you chose is fine, but I prefer S-ATA drives these days due to the simplicity and smaller cable size.

Just seen your new post. You've got an Intel board for an AMD CPU, that won't work. The PSU is a great choice, but the graphics card is unnecessary, you don't really need 1GB on an HD4850, you would be better off saving money and buying a 512MB version.

If you end up with this case you've listed here, you may consider putting some silicone on the inside of the unused larger drive panels. They are removed by pushing inward, so every time you accidentally touch or hit them they will fall inside the case. It gets a little irritating to deal with after the third or fourth time because you have to remove the side panels to get to the front where they have fallen. And at least with silicone, not glue, you can remove it later if you end up using more of the slots.

OMG I'm excited about the new dual core Phenom IIs. I wanna see how they perform and OC :) Are they AM3 only chips though? If so wtf. They promised more AM2 Phenom IIs.

See my edit above, the motherboard is wrong.

Jeff: All the new CPUs are AM3. IIRC that means they work in AM2+ boards.

IMO the new X2 550 BE > intel dual cores.

just for the fact that it can be unlocked to a quad core!

    (well the OCablility aswell :D)

Is there a Maximus formula for AMD?
I have a catalogue that says there is an AMD Maximus II Formula

No, that's the Crosshair II Formula

Shaff: Why make one of the things that weakens a CPU its selling point? The AMDs are the better products stock, but overclocked the Intel wins. They're great CPUs for the majority of people who don't overclock, but when you do consider enthusiast users, their appeal is weaker. The core unlock is largely irrelevant since so few boards can do it.

Well, yes, but it's a ludicrously over-complex board for your uses. You would be better off with something a lot cheaper.

Well there were supposed to be some AM3 only models, some AM2+ only models, and some revised AM3 models that also have a DDR2 memory controller for use with AM2+ boards. I'm not sure which is which. I think if the X3s can do AM2+, the X2s should also be able to.

All AM3 CPUs work in AM2+ with DDR2 don't they?

theres a crosshair iii coming out.

and sam, because they are strong dual cores which can be turned into quad cores, what not to like?

the enthusiast will want to do that, and over clock them.

The fact that nobody outside extremesystems will actually turn them into quad cores.
That you can get a very fast dual core CPU that performs exceptionally well in games for £65 is excellent, but when you consider overclocking, an E5300 is a much better looking option simply for the ridiculous speeds those CPUs can achieve.
Power usage of the new CPUs is still pretty chunky though.
    E7200: 57W idle, 67W HD video, 88W load
    X2250: 60W idle, 84W HD video, 122W load
    X2550: 65W idle, 85W HD video, 129W load

It doesn't seem to have sunk in that you can only use very specific boards to unlock the cores on these chips. If it could be done on any board, it would be much more appealing.

    dru3692,
That doesn't apply to the Centurion RC 334. Those are metal and only release from the back to the outside. they are impossible to push in on mine, and they lock in place very tight!

    Best Regards,

    Sam,
As far as I know, only the Phenom II socket AM3 is AM3 only. It doesn't have the DDR2 memory controller. The new one due out soon will be AM2+/AM3. I guess they wanted to have something to put in the AM3 motherboards that are popping up all over!

    A scabby cheap ASRock? Hmm....

Russ: Hmm, then that puts a big hole in the new AMD CPU lineup.
