i think its fair that if you havent activated a product that it will ceace to work for you.... and i have never seen anyone just uninstall any windows, you can upgrade windows, but not downgrade without formatting the patition that windows is on. This is common standard practice.

I also doubt that MS have been stealing ones information, and if so russ, why not go to mac/linux instead?

    Sam,
Back then, no! They are or at least were a much better group in more modern times. I never listen to a radio, and watch very little TV so it's rare that I get to hear any new music. I have everything on my computer that I want to listen to! I was a big Ratt fan when they first started. Still have their first album! Much more a Classic Rock fan today!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

$14 extra doesn't seem much to pay for a board that will last at least three times as long. Ah well...

As Russ said this time around XP 64 is a lot better I finally found beta drivers for my HP 2600 to work the way it should! Full color and all. Up til now I could only run the Epsons, Canon [limited].Still won't print from outlook without saving to my Docs.Any input on open box Mobo's from Newegg?

An Open Box is ex-RMA. That should be enough to tell you they aren't worth buying.

    Shaff.

I agree on the If you haven't activated it yet part. That's SOP for most trial or timed software! It may be common practice to you to format the partition that windows is on, But the catch is with Win 7 you cannot format the Boot partition, you have to wipe the partition first with Killdisk or something like that and then format it. I'm not sure with Vista. It's been so long since I messed with Vista, I really don't remember!

I don't doubt anything anymore! I used a name that is known only to my sister and I, and my sister won't give a computer house room. She got some Porno one day when shopping on line for clothes for her grandaughter. She hasn't been on line since. She gave the computer away to her Daughter! The only other places that name exists is in the hall of Records in the town that I was born, and even then as a separate document. You can't access these records without giving the proper information. Only the Name and date of birth are public. Same way with Social Security! I certainly never gave out that name to anyone. Even my younger brother doesn't know it! I'm not even saying that M$ stole it, but it's pretty obvious to me that someone gained access to that file and did steal it! needless to say it was quite a shock to me!

So be it. I don't really see one extra step in wiping drive a real problem. Also, I'm sorry, but I simply don't believe you about the address name, you must have let it slip to someone. Either that or your PC had a dataminer on it at one point. You can't really blame the OS for that (well apart from inadequate security)

    Chris,
While I've never purchased one my self, a number of people here on this thread have. I know of no one who didn't get everything that normally comes with a motherboard. I'm sure someone else will chime in here about it!

Glad you got the right printer drivers!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

ok here we go. first of all it hasnt been proven it is a much more reliable board.(at least not to me in all the reading and searching i have been doing)if i was going to stick the E8400 monster on it i would get the biostar in a heart beat. hands down. but im not im putting my Q9550 on it. and from the few people i have talked to, the T45 isnt all that when combined with the Q9550. it was designed to take the E8400 and make it top dog, and it has by far im not dening that. and as for it lasting 3 times longer? how can that be proven these boards havent been out long enough to make that even closely true. its just personal opinion. like i said if i was going to put my E8400 on the board it would be the T45.
second. it only has 6 sata slots. i want and need 8 the P5Q Deluxe has that.
third i want/need 2 lan ports the T45 dont offer that. the P5Q Deluxe does.
forth. the P5Q is 12 phase which works well with the Q9550. the T45 is only 8 phase and that tends to hinder the Q9550 to an extint.
5th and final... i just dont like the looks of the T45...

sounds like i just sold myself a P5Q Deluxe.
TBH up till this week i was set on getting the GA-EP45-UD3P. it like the P5Q Deluxe has all the stuff i just mention'd minus the 12 phase. and here is why i decided against it... for the same reason sam is so down on asus... all the bad luck he has had with asus i can say the same thing about gigabyte. granted they seem to have this board right for me when they sent it back. the mem controler works great i havent had 1 issue like i did before. plus they loaded it with the newest bios for this board.. i ahvent had any issues with it. hell i got the Q9550 running at 3.83ghz with a small amount of tweaking and could easily get 4.0+ with 1066 mem. but whos to say when i get the next gigabyte board im not gonna have issues likei have with the pass 4. true i could have the same with any manufacture i choose but i wont know until i try one.

guys im not trying to start the mobo war so please lets not go there.i know each and everyone of us has our likes and dislikes on manufactures, but for someone like myself i have had only 1 to make an opinion about. and im sure for each instance of bad luck for each manufacture there is just as many good things for them also.
I'm just stateing my point of view thats all.

Russ you must do some wierd things with your machines :) as i've not once had this problem, i've seen nothing different in Win7's behaviour than previous MS OSes. I've just done the usual which is just go thru a normal XP setup where XP happily deletes partitions and installs, and Linux live cd's which happily go about their business without a whimper..

    Sam,
The only place this name exists is in a file under M$ control. It's a part of M$ information file on my install. I've scanned the whole computer and not come up with it anywhere else! I've only heard the name mentioned maybe a dozen times in my life, so I can't see any reason or believe that I would just tell someone or blurt out a name. I just went and retrieved the mail from the mailbox. I've decided that I want to show this to my Lawyer for the Micro$oft case! It really bothers me. Not that I'm doing anything wrong on the computer, but to have an obscure name like that pop up the way it did, is a bit frightening! Especially since technically, the name died out with my Father! There were no other living relatives by that name! They were all dead before I was born except my Great uncle Ted. He died when I was about 4! He had been part of The Real Philadelphia Experiment, during the war, and told us what really happened to his ship on his deathbed! His official cause of death was Radium Poisoning! I just took a few minutes out and went and looked up the last name in the LA White pages. LA is the largest City in the USA, and there is nothing listed! I would say that makes it a very obscure name indeed! Probably Welsh or possibly British!

mm thats odd with win 7, vista you can, did you boot up with a win 7 disc and try to wipe the boot disc or while within win 7, as when i had win 7 beta, i booted into the vista cd and wiped win7 off and installed vista.

    maybe the RC is different

    Creaky,
Do you think I didn't try to do just that? LOL!! I even booted up a win 98 boot disk and tried to format the drive and Access was denied! I even tried the MBR but was denied access too! I ran killdisk on the entire drive, ran Acronis to set up a new drive, and it works fine now. XP-64 installed without issue after that. It's worked fine ever since!

    @cincyrob

It's hard to make the right choice sometimes that's why we shop around and read reviews and ask people that have the same items that we are looking at to buy and to see reaction there getting out of the product all..I gotta say Best of Luck in your choice Robo what ever you get to matchup with your Q9550...Let me be the first to know what you decide on...lol

    enjoy building:)

Ps...what's gonna be the best model platform here socket 1156

Russ, when using the win98 bootdisk, did you select "delete non-dos partition" when using fdisk?
