DANG... poor creaky's equipment is getting waffled on lately... hehehee. :p (i think i used that correctly.. maybe not)

I have 4-5 LG drives and they burned just fine for me.. I haven't used them in quite some time as they are in another rig... my main rig is the E6850 and besides that I don't have the room right now for the other tower in the LR. ;)

heck once the drive is in country(tower)they all are solid. as i do still screw mine down along with the self locking feature. if its there might as well use it.lol

so i guess the only thing to get to keep up with the big dogs is a big ole GPU..lol i still cant justify that. not for what i do..lol

No need or wants for big GPU's here either. I'm still out of work but there's still not enough hours in the day to do all the things i want. I trawl for jobs every day, i spend the rest of the day/evening/some nights researching the Bankster bailout frauds, the economy (global, US and UK) and related subjects (including the Swine Flu which has unsurprisingly now been proven to be a Hoax of epic proportions), US/UK-led wars, and even quite a bit of politics (but only it's relation to the frauds/things i just mentioned).

I just have no time for gaming or other things, though i do try to allow an hour or so most evenings for a blast on GTA4 (xbox 360). Am always finding more devious ways to mow down/maim and basically blow up as many things as possible, fantastic fun, finished the game months ago but still love playing it, it's got a great open world (can't think of the technical term, you basically get to just roam around freely, interacting with everything and everyone, earwigging on phone convo's, annoying people, goading people to hit you so the cops arrest and blow them away, etc etc).

    edited for spelling

I was actually eyeing the UD7 up. Is there still proof the nforce 200 chips cause untold misery in new boards like they used to?
Should I ever want quad graphics and USB3 running well together off a system, the UD4 is definitely going to struggle.

i doubt it. well manufacturers are using them more and more now, esp due to the x58 7pcie mobos out. asus have a few, as do EVGA and MSI aswell.

Oh yah! Just got my tax return. Probably buy a few things today. Won't see the stuff til next week though. Try to put it together during the week, but...during the week, I'm an extremely busy guy LOL! And I need my current quad!

Hey GM. What LG were you referring to? I'm interested in an LG drive. actually 2 of them. One of them has to be a particular model though...

That was my thinking too. Now the next issue is whether I can justify the extra cost instead of, say, just getting an i7 instead. :p

that will take 1.387v to a vdroop of 1.360v to hold stable believe me at 4.26ghz me I'm at 3.93Ghz i'm at 1.337v and a vdroop at 1.312v to 1.296v (Stable) remember we got the same chip numbers and all. I got notes wrote down on all settings to hold what's stable and what's not with this board and chip setup ,best of luck with that goal but your risking high temps and high voltage to keep it there for a long run.I know what you mean 426 the Big Block Mopar.lol

Went through and quickly picked out this build last night as the replacement for my current one. Cost of MB's is significantly more then I anticipated so the total cost is getting to be more then planned for, especially considering this is all pre-tax. Any comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R - I have reservations about buying the cheapest MB (while still being a good board of course) out there but since I'll never have more then one gpu (as in no sli/cf) I think it should be able to handle my needs without much trouble.
GPU: HD5850/5870 most likely; haven't decided if the 5870 is worth the extra 80-100$. Buying a gpu so close to the GTX4xx launch is definitely disconcerting though.
    CPU: i7 920 - 5 years from I think a 920 will be a better cpu to have then an i5 750 (I'd like to know if I'm mistaken)
RAM - 6GB of Corsair or G.SKILL - Even though it's more expensive I'm leaning towards Corsair since have had good experiences with their products and customer service.

What is a good cpu cooler these days? My current one (ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7) struggles to keep my E6600 cool in the summer at stock, and from what I've seen of i7's/i5's, it'll probably take a fairly expensive cooler to have any chance of OCing. I've heard the Noctua NH-D14 is a good HSF except it has problems clearing some RAM modules (specifically the ones I was thinking of getting).

Also, any recommendations for good, preferably quiet, case fans? I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact there be at least one LED fan on any case I get that will need replacing, unless there's a way to remove/disable the led (not very likely from what I've read).

    Thanks,

    redmaw

wait for the GTX480/70 and wait for the 930 (which is replacing the 920) aswell.

its not much too long for a wait for either :)

Here she is. I'm sure I'm gonna get criticism on the PSU :p It's modular, plenty of power, and I could care less about noise, so didn't factor it. While others say that the 550W can handle a lot, I really don't like the idea of coming close to fully taxed, if you get me LOL! At least with this one, I know Its flexible. As well as 85% efficiency :D Plenty of sata connectors as well.

I may not buy today. Probably monday. Not liking the price LOL! But I suppose every component is High grade. I really should buy another PSU. The OCZ is good, but it's not great! And my new system is gonna be even more hungry LOL!

Plus I still wanna consider the SSD!!!

    Sam,
I just installed one of these for a customer, last week.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136177
Overall it looked good, but the tray is very flimsy! Rattles, opening and closing! I'm happy with my AD-7220s and my AD7420s. I also fixed the duff 7240s I got from the egg, so now I have two of them. Cold solder joint was the problem!
