    Oman7,
They are in Freemont CA, about 35 miles away from me, and I've never had a problem with them. I've bought from them at least 4 times that I can remember.

Waiting for a low quality PSU to break before you replace it... Guessing you don't get on with that system very well... :p

I thought the same thing.... ROFL.

There are so many QUALITY low wattage psu's out there it's almost silly. I really like the Corsair 400W and Enermax 400W modular...

    GM & Sam,
I totally agree. Why risk the computer or any of it's components on a PSU you know will fail. That could wind up costing you more than a decent PSU!

If corsair makes a TFX PSU, please, point me in the right direction. It'll be in the HTPC quicker than you can blink! I haven't read any reviews stating that the HEC PSU fried other components. That is fairly rare when PSU's do that... *knocking on wood*

Is that why you don't favor Coolmax PSU's at all? well sorry to say.I have the Coolmax CU-500B 500W for 8 months now (No Problems) powering the ep35c-ds3r rev 2.1
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159087
now with the E8400 EO at 3.7ghz in the Antec 300 Case now with a low end video card( A minimum 300W system power supply)

running Windows Xp Home 32 bit Hooked up to the Network,True indeed it did'nt get any good reviews but for $30 at micro center.I could'en pass it up back then and modular to True it's only pushing out 480 watts max it's quiet enough me not to hear...Got a customer build coming up for a co-worker that just came back to work from lay off, working to put the I45 back together with new hardware and Core 2 Duo 86 0r 87 and .I'm not paying over $200 for them either.I got a deal brewing in the works:)

    Happy Building
    Ya'll

BigWilly you can put anything in your rig that you want to.. I just like the proven stuff better... plus I've heard some NOT so good things about CoolMax. :(

I'm not sure that Corsair makes one but I'd put either on of these in there. ;)

    TFX psu's at the EGG

Seasonic speaks for itself but I've heard good things about certain models of FSP. ;) good luck buddy!!!

Thanks gm. I have been eyeing that seasonic for a little while now. Unfortunately, I may have to mod the case to fit it in there. At least I can probably trust the seasonic though. Which makes it worth it ;) Not heard a lot about FSP. In fact I think you're the first one to recommend it.

Haven't played with XP for a while. I installed XP SP3 Fullmaza edition on the HTPC. Wasn't really planning on keeping it. Just playing really. The poor athlon 5200 runs at 90% usage while playing back a BD rip. Where windows 7 averaged roughly 70-80%. File transfers via sata to usb took twice as long as windows 7. I think it'll serve decent as an HTPC for a few months though. Til my brother can afford to purchase windows 7. I guess you just can't beat windows 7's optimizations :p From the screen shots, I thought it would be very similar to windows vista/7. Apparently it's closer to XP than it is to vista/7. Pretty sharp OS though.

    You most certainly can :p
I did say i was keeping my HTPC on Win7 due to using XBMC, but when i get around to trying XBMC out in linux (i think linux-wise XBMC only really caters for Ubuntu and Ubuntu is too bloated and commercial for my liking), if i can figure out how to get it running in Puppy linux or a.n.other small & lean linux distro, Win7 is still for the chop. Win7 may be smooth running, but it isn't free and it certainly isn't as light as Puppy.

    I won't argue that :p

While my brother is intelligent, I can't see him using linux in the foreseeable future. He's the type who wants to sit down, and just have the OS work. I don't know much about linux, but from what I have seen, it's definitely not for the layman, or for somebody who uses a bunch of softwares catered for Microsoft OS's.

I on the other hand, may just consider using linux on my secondary. Not certain yet. I'll know when I get my new quad system going. I wouldn't mind a super challenge about now. Keeps the mind active ;)

It absolutely does keep the mind active. Being out of work and not using linux i'd have been carted away to a rubber room wearing a white long sleeved jacket by now :p
For years i made a point of not really using linux at home, ie not bringing work home so to speak, but using a mouse driven OS too long isn't good for the old grey matter. Don't be unduly put off by linux, it's quite easy, the only difficult bit is if ever there aren't drivers for a specific device or whatever, linux itself is dead easy. Here's an example, i've never used MacOS (have just never found a want or need for it, i doubt i ever will but i digress as usual). But if i did i'll wager it's dead easy to get a handle on, it's just that i've never used it.
Don't get me wrong, i love the simplicity of Windows as much as the next person, but it's just far too simple :p

If you're already in there it'll take more than an OS associated with beards and sandals LMAO.

so will the current 4.3.1 Puppy linux work on quad cores? Their homepage speaks of dual cores, but not quads. It could merely be an example though...
This could INDEED be challenging LOL! The ISO is the only thing I need to get started right?

I think I'll experiment with the HTPC first LOL!

Yeah it works fine. As i can't be bothered to install Puppy on the Quad i have it running from a USB stick, i just boot from that on the Quad the odd times i try it out on there. The good thing about a USB install is that i can use said stick on any machine and it'll work, it doesn't care about the hardware underneath it, the stick gets swapped between ancient P3's, P4's, C2D or Quad, AMD or Intel, it doesn't care.
Yep, just an ISO, it's only about 50MB, chuck it on a CD or a make a bootable USB stick to save using a CD (some machines even boot off SD cards in pound shop card readers).
And if you want to reuse the USB stick for something else you can just copy all files off the stick to a save area on the PC somewhere, reuse the stick for a.n.other purpose. If you want Puppy back on the stick, just copy the saved files back on.

Lightweight indeed creaky! The iso is only 100Mb. Thats incredibly light! I bet that's as small as they come eh.

Indeed it is tiny. I just don't subscribe to the whole 'buying an OS' thing, i've never done it once, ever
