Currently running on a limited 3 use license of 7 Professional x64 from my school. Got it for free and it's mine forever. Only downside is 3 installs allowed period on one machine. Don't forsee having to reformat any time soon and my other machines run XP Pro so I think it'll last me a long time ;P

Estuansis, Are you saying that any one machine, windows 7 serials can only be used 3 times before a red flag? Surely I misunderstood you LOL!

Looks like the HTPC board doesn't like booting from Flash drives. Unless I setup the drive wrong. One drive game me an i/o error. Where as the other said that the boot manager was missing. I wouldn't doubt that the one with the first error, was simply because that drive doesn't support it. But the other makes me think that i've done something wrong. Shouldn't the flash drive only need the contents of the iso creaky? Just a simple transfer/copy paste LOL! Probably more to it than that. Seems like I read somewhere that flash drives need to be setup properly for booting.

Well, it didn't work. On either of my boards. I fooled with multiple settings in the bios. Perhaps its time I consulted both manuals, and some linux forums. I do appreciate your time though creaky :)

    Will,
Strike three! LOL!! I was talking about, and answering Oman7's comments on the HEK TFX PSU! Oman7 said that he was going to let it run it's course! I've seen everything from blown motherboards, CPUs, drives and even chipsets damaged by bad PSUs! Oh, I forgot memory. It just depends on the type of short. Most common is the +12v shorting across the 5v line! Not too good for any running drive, and man they stink! Just a little pop and a puff or two of smoke and it's bye, bye, burner!

That sounds awesome, think I'll try puppy out before deciding on the final OS for my server (the server is the machine whose OS changes weekly when I'm bored).

    Surely you did ;P

I'm not sure about the full commercial version of Win 7. But my copy is a student version. I get to keep it even after I'm through with school, but it is only good for 3 reinstalls on one machine. I'm sure you can use it on other machines, but the idea is 3 installs period. You can only use one at once.

That kind of sucks. But I suppose 3 installs is plenty in the right conditions. If they ever try to cancel my serial, I'll just get it via other means ;) Or I'll switch to something else, Like linux with wine. Can't seem to get puppy to work. Not sure if it was a bad disc, or whether my hardware isn't supported or not. People with similar boards run it though. And my manual doesn't mention anything about booting from USB drive. I'll figure it out though. I don't usually give up easily :p

Well...now I bite my nails for a few hours, then click the buy button LOL! Really leaning toward it too. I'm curious how the SSD will effect GTA IV. Can't wait to try it :D I figure I buy this one now, and Raid 0 another one, in a few months or so.
I stepped back the PSU, because I don't think I need a SUPER PSU yet, and the modular design I can live without for now. If it can handle sli/crossfire, and its 85% efficiency, I think I'll be safe for a while LOL!

    Question or 2 here

    1. does a guy that works for UPS still get charged UPS charges on deliveries??? lol

    2. im trying to format my seagte 250gb hdd. windows wont let me do it just by clicking on the drive then right click and hit format. it says i need to close all windows useing that drive first. i dont have anything running off that drive. so i got out my seagate disc and am going to clone that drive with the one im useing now.. ive done this before with no problems,BUT this time it looks wrong. ive choosen the source drive and then the destination drive. but in the next step it shows the sorce drive as both. here is what im talking about.

then when i hit next it does show the steps a little better disc 3 is the source drive and disc4 is the destination. id say this is correct right?

Rob - haven't used that program before. But it looks to me that the first screenie is simply stating that the destination drive will be known as C: (reasonable, just disconcerting!). The second screenie seems to give confidence that drive 3 -> 4 is actually what is happening (as long as 3 is actually the source drive!).
I only trust Windows to format USB sticks and SD cards these days. For formatting a hard drive i prefer to use a linux live CD, or if the hard drive in question is on a multi-boot PC i'd boot into a linux partition and mount the Windows hard drive, format it and then go back into Windows. At least that way Windows hasn't 'got a gold' on the drive while you're trying to format it.

yea after looking at it a little bit more i agree with you it is going to do what i want it to do and clone my WD drive(disc 3) to my Seagate drive(disc 4).

I'm not gonna get my new WD3200AAKS until wed, and then prolly not get WIN7 loaded on it until this weekend. so i want to have both systems up and running so ill just clone the drives and go from there. once i get windows 7 installed and into the new rig i hope this is the last time i have to format in a long time.

i am anxious to get the E8400 back in here and fired up again.

" I haven't read any reviews stating that the HEC PSU fried other components. That is fairly rare when PSU's do that... *knocking on wood*"
not knocking on wood, lying. Very common that low quality PSUs do that. You just have to exceed their capability. Who knows what that might be?
Will: Coolmax PSUs are definitely in the 'destroy systems' bracket, as I know people that have had it happen. The system you use it in just happens to not use enough power to make the unit go pop. You're on borrowed time.

    Lying? Umm...no. LOL!

Actually, I'm probably just gonna end up shelving the HEC supply for a short term backup. If the seasonic lasts as long as I hope it does, I may never have to use the HEC supply :)

Oh yah. My equipment is on its way :D 80Gb SSD, Amd's flagship, etc. And now, $h!t is gonna hit the fan. As it always does when I spend absurd amounts of money LOL! My car will undoubtedly require something. It's my luck LOL!
Rob, UPS benefits won't allow us to save on shipping. I think once upon a time they did, but people took advantage. E.g. bringing in other peoples stuff to ship. I guess I can understand their reluctance to give us that benefit. It sucks, but I understand ;)
