What happens when you try to install for the fourth time? Technically I can't reinstall my "upgrade" version but it will accept the cd key again if you change a value in the registry.

If the problem is it won't boot from the USB try the other MBR's. The one the author suggests is the one that worked for me.

Well I don't know as I'm only on the first install. But I would assume it tells me that my key is expired and to call MS to pay for a new one. At which point I obtain another copy from an "alternative" resource ;P

Oh yeah saw this a few pages back and must have completely missed it.

The site is just awesome. I also got my X-Clamp repair kit from there and saved an otherwise dead Xbox. Been playing it a couple hours a day for the past few weeks and it runs great. Also bought the updated cooler from there + the 12v fans so my Xbox runs ultra cool now :)

You will like the SSD. I compare standard HDD vs. SSD to running Windows XP with 256mb vs. 2GB RAM.

oman, im sooo jelous that you have the SSD! congrats!

remember when you install, dont intall chipset drivers, let windows 7 do that as the chipset drivers wont allow trim to work, but win7 drivers will, AND update to intels latest FW for a big speed boost and trim support. plus if you raid0 trim wont work unfortunately

Yikes, that reminds me of a few weeks ago here :S
A small amount of snow was forecasted here overnight, but all we really got was a tiny bit of frost. Not so further south though from what I hear.

I read about that before I bought it. One day, I will Raid 0, but not yet. Trim and firmware is something I will be watching and reading about regularly! ;)

The TRIM firmware argument is also something that makes me glad I'm still waiting on purchasing an SSD. I still think the Intels are the best performers, but would like it that when I buy one, it comes with the TRIM firmware as standard.

300$ is a lot of money to spend on a technology still in its infancy. I got impatient LOL! Nah, Its close enough for me for now. I've been reading reviews and ways of optimizing them, and decided I can baby it. Essentially, minimize the writes the disk incurs.

peopel spend $300 on other components every day, that wont make much difference, where are for your computer life the SSD will probably be the biggest upgrade you can have.

I think you're overplaying the role of the SSD a bit...

i doubt it. eeryday use one will notice a much snappier computer moving to an SSD rather than gettign more ram or a new mobo or overclocking a CPU or even a new CPU (well unless one is going from a P4 :p)

Considering how well Windows 7 runs with just a 7200rpm drive, I don't think it's as stellar an improvement as you think. If you have any less than 2GB of RAM, I would say upgrading memory would be a priority for most people. Of course, systems with less than 2GB aren't that common these days.

No speed issues here on my hard-drive based Win7 machines. No way would i spend hundreds of pounds on what is just a jumped up SD card, i don't care how fast they are. Each to their own though, as long as it's not my money :)

Indeed. Even my 2001 HP pavilion has 2gb :) From what I've heard about SSD, even windows 7 will see an improvement. But then, most of my data will be stored on other drives, so...

I just wanna see all the hype. ;)

Well, given that early SSDs such as the OCZ Solid Series were slower than mechanical drives, that shows both how important getting a good one is, and also how slight the performance gain is. You need a best of the best SSD to really notice a big speed difference between it and a mechanical HDD, and if you already own one of the fastest mechanical drives out there, it shouldn't take much to see that there's not going to be a vast improvement. Don't get me wrong, I still want an SSD, but it offers the weakest performance per pound of any of my future potential upgrades, including spending £400 moving from a Q9550 to an i5.

Looks like I'll be delving into a slight Stereo receiver rebuild LOL! I posted a pic a few days ago, about my new desktop configuration. One of my monitors is sitting on top of the stereo receiver. It only blocks half of the air vent. Apparently that could be enough to heat things up. It's also possible that a fan went out. I set my hand on top of it recently. It was VERY warm to the touch. If it were any warmer, it would be approaching scalding temperature. I'm hoping that the fan/s inside are same/similar to PC specifications (12Volts). I've opened up other types of equipment in the past, and noticed they were 12v. Perhaps 12v is more universal then I think. Certainly hope so LOL! Because:
    1. it's my fathers stereo
    2. I love it LOL!
    3. if it dies, I'll be without sound for a while...

    Shaff,
I agree with Sam! You are overplaying the SSD's role. The average person could care less, and have far less computer than most of us here have. That's why they still sell Celerons! LOL!!
