ok thanks but what about Search indexing and why would one need to turn it off? also if i wanted to turn it off how would i go about doing it?

* 1. Click on “start” and enter “services.msc” into the search field, which will fire up the service list of all Windows 7 services.
* 2. Search through the list until you find “Windows Search” (tip: press “W” and it will jump to all services starting with the letter W).
* 3. Doube-click on “Windows Search” and from the dropdown field select startup type: “Disabled”.
* 4. Stop the service.

Your welcome. However, it should be noted that disabling windows search, you will no longer be able to search within text documents...

 

yeah i read about that which is why i am not going to disable it.

Besides that it's also needed for the search function in the start menu (obviously lol), which is how I launch all of my documents and programs now so I have to keep it on. Almost as good as alt+f2.

 

I've been working on those temps, and I think I finally fihured it out! Here's my new temps, at idle! 23C/74F ambient



Here it is running Orthos. Normal settings except for the memory (2.05v) and the CPU (1.34v) OCCT puts an unnatural load on the CPU, as there's nothing you can do using a computer that will ever place that high a load on the CPU. It crashed running Orthos!



I left the CPU voltage at 1.34v and upped the NB voltage 1 click (.1v I think) It no longer crashed, and here's the results with Orthos again.



Now it's running DVDRB/CCE at much lower temps. I did manage to capture the screen one of the two times it flickered to 41C.



I would say I've solved my temperature problems. The CPU cooler doesn't get much over 1400 rpm, and it handles the load fine. Why the CPU voltage affects the motherboard temp, I don't know, but the rise in MB temp corresponds to the increase in CPU voltage. Don't know, don't care! It just works! I definitely got it right though!

I haven't plugged it in yet, and I'm already impressed. It reminds me of a corsair! Right when I grabbed it, I was like "WOW". The sucker has some serious mass for its size Should power my HTPC and GPU. Now I shouldn't have to worry for a while.

Here's one of my tasks for tomorrow. Gonna have to remove the indicated area, so the new PSU will fit. Otherwise, all the dimensions are good You can see that the extended fan is what causes the issue. No biggie. Just gotta mod a little bit.

 

Ok... I have a few questions.

I purchased an OCZ EvoStream 600W psu to replace the 850W CM that I have in my E6850 rig as I'm very tired of ALL the frikkin cables in there. LOL. NOT having a dual GPU setup and NOTHING that requires all that power and unnecessary cables I opted out for this psu. Yes I looked it up and did some research and it seems it's a decent psu and will be sufficient for my needs.

1. what is this?? standard 240v plug for Europe? 2. Will it be ok to use a "standard" USA power cord that I have laying around?? I has plenty!


3. Will this unit "automatically" detect the power source and convert from there?? It has NO external "switch" to make the change "manually".

btw it's heavier than the VX-550W unit that I have and I'm actually very impressed with this unit... to the tune of getting another one for about $45 delivered!!!

That's a European 220v cord. Just put a regular 115v cord on it. The OCZ EvoStream 600w auto-senses the correct voltage instead of having a manual switch! It will work just fine! done it before!

Thankfully PSUs are switching these days anyway, so even if you bought the PSU from europe, you could still use it in the US.

Heh, I am starting to run low on them. It is increasingly rare for PSUs to ship with mains cables these days. I think Corsair are the only units that still seem to do it in the UK, presumably because they would normally provide european plugs and don't want to spend the extra on providing UK ones.

 

So are they different?? UK vs European? What is the one that I posted a pic of? Will it work for you?

 

So no opinions on how to smooth/grind out the metallic bevel, or bubble?
My thoughts are preferably to use a pair of Dikes. Which is like a miniature Tin snip tool. If that proves unsuccessful. I'll move on to the grinder. But If I use a grinder, I'll have to remove literally every component, so as to not spread metallic particulates throughout the entire system I prefer to take the lazy mans approach of course LOL!
