Well put it this way, my 4870X2s don't seem to mind about running at 8x, both of them. Unless you're running a mega GPU, there's no matter.

Mega Gpu? Is that the technical term LOL! :p

Seriously though, what Card would suffer? Perhaps the more cutting edge ones eh?

If I was running dual gpu's I wouldn't care, and I'm not entirely sure I do care anyway. According to a test I read there's usually only a ~5 fps difference between a 5870 in x8 and x16, but in some newer and/or more demanding games it climbed to ~10 fps.

The HD5970 might, but I'm not sure yet. Until I can afford two, I won't know :p

Ahh, see now. That's why I was leaning more toward the 790Fx board. Since two GPU's could run at full 16X 16X bandwidth. Alas, I have to prioritize now. And as I've said, I'm not an extreme gamer. Perhaps one day I could be...

Anyway, I'm set for at least another year or maybe 3. Really depends on what's released within that time frame, and how tempted I am to get my hands on it :D

    Sam,
It depends on which version. 2.60 is a stand alone version that requires no installation, and uses very few resources. 5.30 uses 26,504K of memory and whatever else it draws from. I'm still having a tough time understanding how when running Everest 2.60, my computer runs so much hotter than with 5.30. The mystery deepens even more, because almost none of the energy used seems to be CPU related. I could understand the NB getting hot if the CPU percentage was up there, but 2-3% usage makes no sense at all. I've confirmed both temps with an IR Thermal Probe, and it's within a degree, so it's not just changing the temps. The heat was real, and real hot! Now I can push all 4 cores with OCCT, and it will hit 43C in a very warm room, 27-28C.

I got a major virus, last night from a site I've frequented in the past, and wound up with the dreaded "Guardian Virus". It's gotten smarter! You can't run or install Malwarebytes, use System Restore, or anything of any help to you at all. I tried running malwareBytes in safe mode, but the virus nicked the executable. It isn't there In the end you wind up with the "Cairo Virus", and the machine keeps shutting down. I wiped the boot partition with Killdisk, and started over. I just ran out of options. The computer runs just the same as before, even to the point on my installing EasyTune to control the CPU fan. I manually put in the same settings I used before and it works perfect.

    Fred,
The free one. The pay one would not have helped. By the time I tried to use it, it was already too late. It was a well choreographed attack! Besides, MalwareBytes is not an active running program. It doesn't prevent anything from happening!

    O YES it does RUSS
If U have it running at start-up, it will definitely stop some Mal-ware from getting on your Computer
I don't know how it works, all I know is it works

Russ I think you partially answered my question, and rick did add some and I hope he is right, anyway I know malwarebytes would not have helped even if you tried to download the paid version after the fact, but if you had the paid version from the start, could it have prevented this infection?

The free Combofix seems to work.

It can mess up other things sometimes so as it's strictly a last resort.

    Fred,
I'm not wishing to start something but Free MalwareBytes is a scanner, it's not an active program like your Anti virus. It does not run in the background! Secure Systems 1 Click Fixer is the same way. It will stay open in the taskbar, but does absolutely nothing! both are manually run programs only!

The pay version does run in the background according to this!

Whether it would have prevented this attack, I don't know, but I doubt it. It managed to knacker my Anti-Virus while it was running, so I doubt it. It also prevented me from doing a system Restore as well. I hope that clarifies things! I will be looking into the pay version though.

All I'll say is, I find with Vista/Win7 64-bit, all the stupid viruses tend to go away. If you find a really epic virus, it would defeat an anti-virus program anyway, and in which case, unlucky. I haven't used an AV on my gaming machine since Vista first went on it at the beginning of 2009. So far so good.

Check this nightmare out. I don't wanna install a dvd drive in it, so I have it sitting outside it for the time being. Eventually, a BD-rom will go in it. But it can't be one of the lengthy ones, or it will butt up into the CPU heat sink. NOT cool...

Please don't mention the dust, I'm rather touchy about that :p

Ouch at how close the end of the PCI brackets are to the outside of the case. That's a thin case!

    LOL! I suppose.

This board just surprised me once again. Quickest install of windows 7 yet. 14 minutes from disc to desktop!!! That has to be some kind of record. Which makes me assume that the gigabyte boards have something about them, which causes a hangup, which does not occur on the MSI Nforce board.

Indeed, all Gigabyte boards have the Vista/7 hang. Not all boards do. Asus boards do it too.
