Is now a bad time to say I'm loving the office 2010 Beta?

Now HERE is a freak of a fan!
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213006
It's likely the most powerful fan on the egg. Though someone mentioned one more powerful. 4,000 Rpms, 150CFm, 1.5amp(17.4W). Very electric hungry fan! I'd be worried of running it off the mobo. I'd probably run it directly through a fan controller. Though if it were the main CPU cooler, I'd have to shut off all cpu warnings. Thats kind of scary. Although, with the right controller, the controller could warn me if the fan didn't engage ;)
Would any of you enthusiasts ever consider such a freak?

It's been compared to a blow dryer for noise! LOL!

All you need do to run a fan like that is hook it up to a hardware fan controller rated for more than 18W per channel, not difficult.
On the topic of fans, recently spotted this on the newegg site:

Quite a handy looking device if ever I saw one...

    Oman7,
You couldn't stay in the house with that much noise all the time. Being in the same room for very long would be out of the question. It would hurt your ears! Mine anyway! LOL!!

Ahh yah. I've used a similar PCI cooling fan. I believe I've posted it before. It was believed to have little or no effect in a good cooling system. Though it had a VERY extreme effect in a cramped case ;) It did its job well cooling an AGP card in my late HP computer.

Russ, that's why I'd connect it to a controller ;)

    As an idea:
Those fans are the dual-rotor extreme edition ones.
Here are two of the slower, quieter, single-rotor fans in use:

So then, if the one you posted is louder than that...

Wow sam! The specifications don't prepare you for that LOL!

    Oman7,
why would you pay $32 for a fan and then hook it up to a controller to reduce it's airflow and noise, when you could buy any number of fans that move the same amount air as a reduced speed one of those contraptions? At 1000 rpm it will still be quite noisy!

Buy one of these instead for 1/4 the cost, and use a fan controller!
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185058

I personally think you would do better with no fan controller and one of these!
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185057

That $32 noisy bastard won't even start at a voltage low enough for it to be quiet. It will run, but it ain't gonna start. Not with a 7v minimum voltage. Besides, by the time you get it quiet enough to live with, it won't move as much air as the 40 cfm Scythe at 800 rpm, and it won't be anywhere near as quiet!

As it happens, the minimum voltage of Delta fans is around 2.8-3.2V, you can actually get them running off a pair of AA batteries believe it or not. However, the problem with Delta fans is that due to the way they are designed for absolute speed, their acoustics at low rpms are disgusting compared to normal fans, as is their comparative airflow. Unless you will use the maximum speed of a Delta fan on a semi-regular basis, there is indeed no reason to own one. What's also worth bearing in mind is that the most powerful ones must actually be kept away from EMI-sensitive components such as networking as the fields generated by the extreme power of the fans actually interrupts data flow, causing network dropouts.

    Sam,
2.8-3.2v you could work with, but with a 7v minimum on the Delta FFB1212EH-F00, it wouldn't stand a prayer at voltages that low. The amp load would be so high, it would probably melt the motor housing before it stopped making noise, permanently! LOL!! Throw in the EMI problem and it's a total waste!

Almost all fans have an official minimum voltage of 6 or 7. In reality, they'll go a lot lower than that. Also, as an electrical engineer I can't believe what you just wrote.. Rethink that sentence :p

I probably wouldn't buy one really. I was merely impressed by it's capabilities. One reviewer stated that he got his processor to 4.8Ghz on two of those fans. If I had the computer behind a closed door or something, that would be ok, but otherwise you're correct. The fans are overkill if I merely buy them to control them at a slower speed ;)

I reckon he would have pulled off the same overclock with a 1900rpm Slipstream as well.

Hehe newegg reviewers make me LOL. You can tell most of them have no clue what they're talking about. And half of the lower scores are from idiots who messed it up themselves or couldn't figure out how to use the product properly. Newegg reviews can be useful, for predicting and averting potential problems with a product. But read carefully, because you'll usually find an idiot between the lines :p

Indeed. He probably said he got his CPU to 4.8Ghz because it was a dual core 2.4Ghz...

I'm aware of certain fools on newegg LOL! But that one, hadn't occurred to me. A 1900 slipstream eh....

I wonder if that would fit in the Tuniq 120 tower...

Or people who put a 1200W Generic Brand PSU into a computer that takes maybe 250 at max load.

Hehe at the dual core reference. Surprisingly I'm still fighting that bit of misinformation even today. I don't even know why I bother with youtube comments :p

Heck, I'm no genius. As I'm sure most/some of you have gathered. I have my moments. Which is why I like this site. Friendly people who are willing to voice their opinions and experience.
Such a shame I didn't bump into this site earlier. Perhaps life would have dealt me a completely different hand...
