I'd recommend a P55A-UD5 or P55A-UD4 over the P55-UD5 due to the newer socket design, less likely to burn out at high overclocks. I don't trust the Foxconn sockets at all :p

It is quite a small picture. I can read it, but it's not that easy.

Wow, your talking about top notch stuff there Rob, I couldn't come close to that, but if you can do it more power to you, looks like one hell of a build. Good luck.

You can try looking at the GA-P55A-UD4P, it's the s1156 board I would have gotten. Also you might want to get different ram, I have the same one's you linked and they aren't stable at 9-9-9-24 with less than 1.72v (they will run at rated timing and speed, just need a bit more voltage). If you're willing to run your ram voltage that high (refer to one of sam's post a page or two back) I'll sell you my kit for 50$ + shipping (only used for a week) if you want them.

    Sam,
First off, the 9500GT is an ideal card for the type of games Creaky's Daughter plays. Second, it's not a passively cooled card, like the HD3450, and the price is about the same. You can pick up the 9500GT I recommended for about $40. We are not talking state of the art video cards here! LOL!! I like nVidia cards because I've had far less driver issues with them than I ever had with Ati cards.

GDDR3 is a big issue too. The majority of HD 4650s are GDDR2 or DDR2, and much slower than cards with GDDR3. The GDDR3 ones are about $20 more than the GDDR2 ones. The best 9500GTs have GDDR3, and a better GPU chip to support it than the older GDDR2 models had. If I was going to recommend an Ati, it would be this one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4141113&cm_re=hd_4650-_-14-141-113-_-Product. Only about $10 more and a more powerful card. It has VGA, DMI and HDMI ports. The MSI 9500GT comes with DVI and HDMI ports and includes an adapter from DVI to VGA As far as second hand goes, unless I knew the person I was buying it from, I wouldn't go near one!

Mainly, I recommended the MSI 9500GT bacause I have been using mine for a year now, and I'm happy with it's performance. For what I do with it, it was a very good choice. I guess my biggest gripe with the Ati cards is the constant need to upgrade the drivers! Every time I got a new game, it wouldn't work without installing the latest version of catalyst, and so on. With my 9500GT, I installed the drivers that came with it, and haven't touched them since. Far Cry II recommends upgrading the drivers, but it plays fine. If I could upgrade without having to throw out the MSI control interface, I would! Unfortunately, the upgrades are just the newest drivers, direct from nVidia and you lose the control interface, so I don't upgrade! I know I can use RivaTuner or CoolBits to do the job, but I can control every aspect of the video from a very simple menu by right clicking on the desktop. I have the video card directly control my DVD video settings, rather than Power DVD 7, and it looks magnificent. What more could you ask for unless you are big into games?

    Best Regards,
    Russ

    Rob,
I think you may have misread a couple of things. The price for the P55-UD5 is only $209, and it supports a total of 12 USB ports. 8 on the back, and motherboard headers for 4 additional ports.

You may have been looking at the X58-UD5, which is about $280. looking at the board it supports 10 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0. 6 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 on the back, and motherboard headers for 4 more ports.

And no, senility is not contagious, so don't be blaming it on me now! ROFLMSOAO!!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

    Nah russ, P55A-UD5, not P55-UD5. There's a difference!

LOL! In the computer world, that sorta thing happens often. It's wise to be both thorough, and vigilant.

    Sam,
Newegg doesn't sell a GA-P55A-UD5, at least not so far. I know there's a difference because the "A" has USB 3.0 and Sata 6.0. The price is why I figured Rob was looking at the X58A-UD5. It has only 6 USB 2.0 ports on the back, but I thought the 3.0 ports were backward compatible, and there are two of those as well. So there's still 8 USB ports on the back of the MB and 2 headers for 4 more ports on the motherboard!

Newegg may not sell the P55A-UD5, but it sure exists, I almost bought one, before deciding on the UD4 instead due to cost.

    Rob,
The only reason I thought you might have accidentally read the specs on the wrong board was because of the price, and the board I linked did list 6 rear USB 2.0 ports. You had all those Newegg links, so it was only natural that I though you were quoting Newegg. I wonder why Newegg doesn't sell the GA-P55A-UD5 yet? It may be the economy, what with having to buy a new MB, memory and the CPU to build a system, as most don't have the MB or the memory already.

    Sorry,
    Russ
