You're meant to use 15mm thick fans - As for it being used passively, yes, but you won't see much better temps than with the Sapphire cooler I don't expect, airflow must be chronic in your case to get the sort of temps you do, Sapphire's coolers are pretty good.

 

Before I buy a new corsair psu does anyone in the states have a quiet psu they want to sell that doesn't have need a minimum load? I don't want to ruin a brand new decent psu lol (going to cut off the green and a black wire to put in a switch).

My E6750 would smoke my AMD 7750BE at 3.55 too, but overall the AMD 7750BE was the faster chip for my applications. That's why I bought it! It was the better chip for my needs!

I remember Sophocles talking about that a while back. Since AMD has long since abandoned Cloning Intel chips, their architectures are completely different, and they both perform certain functions in completely different ways. I've been feeling my way along with SuperPi, not knowing what was considered good for an AMD. I know the first time I posted an under 25 second SuperPi, I about started a stampede on an AMD forum I used to belong to! Apparently that was unheard of for any AMD dual core at the time! I'm still learning AMD's way of doing things, but my results keep getting better and better, so I must be learning something! LOL!!

Yeah well, I have been a bit consumed with high quality video lately. LOL!! Just a little anyway!:0) I can modestly state, that I am a bit of a Demanding Bitch about video quality! ROFLMAO!!

The biggest bonus though, is games! You put a serious video card or two in this thing and you've got one hell of a gamer! Nothing Ultra Serious like Sam has, but still ..... The more I use it, the more I learn. I apply what I learn to my overclocking, and the results keep getting better. Can't ask for much better than that! And I'm still learning! :0)

I'm spoiled to high quality video. DVD barely cuts it anymore. I'm extremely critical when it comes to dvd quality now. The new Avatar movie impressed me soo much, I've recommended people to upgrade to BluRay. It's the best BD picture I've seen yet! Highly fluid I think the main movie was over 40Gb!!! I should sure hope that video looks striking LOL!

You might want to look at my DVD conversion of it then! It's has incredibly Beautiful picture Quality. It took me a bunch of tries to get it perfect, but I do'd it! LOL!!

I don't know, I don't have access to 1080p. my next door neighbor has a 720p, and these look real well on it, but on my computer where I watch about 99% of my Movies there is no difference to see. I've seen 1080p, and I am impressed, but we'll never have one of sufficient size to matter. I mean if we had, say a 52", we would have to put it out on the front lawn, as it would be far too close to you inside the house. Maybe 6-7 feet away. I know I would need to be a good 10 feet or more away from it, or wind up with headaches.

Getting back to Avatar. The balance of the softer background and the sharpness and contrast of the people and animals, combined with the hues within the colors themselves, is almost magical! It's lush where the colors need to be lush and subdued in an etherical way in the backgrounds, yet the fluorescence of the plant life is almost electrical, it's so beautiful. The scene where the Seeds of the Tree of Life all rest on Jake is absolutely beautiful. It's almost like he was being draped with a living shirt or something. It takes your breath away with it's magnificence. That's what makes it look so real! I watched it on my neighbor's 32" 720p Samsung and it looks fabulous!

Hey Guy's, my pc has been on the blink the last several weeks, today it's kinda working ok so far, I hope it doesn't shut down on me making a post here, Russ I rented Avatar the other day, I rented both the DVD & BR version, wanted to try again and see about the difference, Iv'e done this before I never saw much difference I was disappointed, I figured on giving it another shot.

I have a Sony 40in XBR, I must say I finally saw a little difference between the two, but don't forget to me anyway anything thats kinda animated, and anything animated does have a better affect when it comes to BR as Avatar does, Iv'e always said anything 40in or under is kind of a waste but I was impressed with Avatar, after reading some posts on this thread some of you guys have a way to convert high quality video on your DVD disc's, I don't understand yet how you guys do it but it sure sounds intersting, Russ sent me one he converted, it was one of the Batman movies, the damn thing was almost as good as a store bought BR disc, very impressive.

Last, I'm leaving for the UK next Monday, gonna hang out for a couple of months, plus fly over to the Ukraine also for a month, to you UK guys, anybody there know how the flights been going, are things back on schedual after that volcanic cloud problem in the London area, I know the news says things are getting back to normal but when I hear getting back to normal I still sense some reservations, any feed back would be appreciated, Russ I'm gonna contact you before I leave, gonna be a busy week, the planning the packing YUK.

 

Flights been pretty normal lately. For how long who knows, as the volcano that caused such widespread disruption is tectonically linked to a second, larger volcano that erupts shortly after the smaller one does, and has a normal eruption cycle by itself every 40-80 years. Last eruption was 92 years ago. When that one goes up, air travel could be chaos for weeks. For now though, LHR, LGW, LCY, STN and LTN at least all have a low delay index.


As for video quality, DVDs may not be perfect, but HD downscaled to standard def digital loses the vast majority of the picture quality compared to true High Def. If you can distinguish different types of standard def recording, you should easily be able to see how superior HD is. This of course, really applies when you have a correct monitor size. 16:10 monitors that don't fit in the resolution boundaries tend not to do HD full justice as they are always interpolating/extrapolating the image. 1680x1050 for example has to downscale 1080p and upscale 720p, so neither look their best. 1920x1200 can display 1080p natively and correctly with a black bar, but 720p is of course upscaled.
2560x1600 can display 720p natively as quad pixel, but upscales 1080p, so 720 looks little worse than 1080. For true HD you really need a screen with 1920 horizontal pixels, or better yet, an actual HDTV, hence why we bought one
