Haha believe it or not my old OCZ StealthXStream finally kicked the bucket. Dude tells me it just shut off in middle of a game and wouldn't turn back on. Go over there and sure enough the machine is dead as a door nail. Pulled the StealthXStream out to check it out and the fan was seized up with some burn marks inside! Haha what a way to go. Not internal issues but a failed cooling fan! LOL

Didn't take a single piece of hardware with it though bless it.

    Ha ha! Not laughing here...

I had that exact mishap happen to me. The damn PSU's cooling fan went. Though I caught it in time thankfully. Windows would freeze up. My guess is the transformer within the PSU was getting so hot it either became erratic, or something was communicating with it to shut down. Because if I were to leave it off a few minutes, then start it back up, it would freeze up at almost precisely 2 minutes every time. Or the CPU was simply not getting stable power, and caused a windows error ;)
I got several months of reliable service after that. I probably would have had more if it weren't for that damned fan! :) Definitely pays to watch those buggers ;)

I believe that was in 2005. My first machine might I add. I've had it since 2003. a very decent machine in its day. A pavilion 7905 :D

HA now got the guy hooked up with a second hand Antec NeoPower Blue 650W. Not an ideal unit but it's never had problems and voltages are in-check...

Yeah as far as I can tell the fan had been locked up for a few days. Pulled apart shows me it was a sleeve bearing, go figure... Anyway yeah the best I could figure it was the fan failing that caused the damage. Unless something else could seize up a fan like that... Wasn't a bad unit and it load tested wonderfully so I'm a bit hesitant to point at internal parts for the failure.

I would assume any overload on it would just have it shut down, wait a few minutes, and turn it back on. And I know for sure the system it was powering was well within the limits of the hardware. X3 720 @ 3.7, 4GB OCZ Plat. DDR2 800, Gigabyte 780G, 2 HDDs, and my good old 9800GTX+ AMP!.

But from what I see it was simply a failed cooling fan and it shut down due to heat damage. Nothing more.

Whatever it was the PSU did it's job admirably right to the end. Got the Antec 650 plugged in and it started right up like nothing happened. Not a single fried component. It was a good end for such a die-hard PSU :)

Mind you I no longer own this system. Sold it to a friend for $400 with my old Athlon X2 7750BE @ 3.2 in it. He's since then replaced the 7750 with a 720BE but apart from that no other changes...

The Antec NeoPower 650 I got off a friend for $30. Seems he used it for about a year, had some issues, and replaced it in his attempts to fix the system... which turned out to be a damaged DVI end on his secondary monitor causing no POST... weird but true. Also just got a 4890 from him for $80. Someone offered me $120 so it's practically sold :D

    A little help Please.

Can anyone tell me what the MCP temp is for, on the Foxconn Motherboard in Oxi? All my temps look good with the 630 Quad in it, but the MCP seems high at 60C, but I have no idea of what it is!

    Thanks in Advance,
    Russ

    GM,
    Model:Foxconn M61PMV
    SN:UY30931124123

It has the latest bios in it and it runs fine, I'm just trying to figure out what the MCP Temperature is.

    Thanks,
    Russ

Probably wrong but my best guess is that it's the NVIDIA nForce 430 MCP chipset. Where exactly are you seeing MCP, the bios?

    Red_Maw,
It shows up in Everest 5.30. I have a webcam that shows up InfraRed real well, and I looked over the motherboard in the dark. There as a chip with a heatsink on it that shows that it get's quite warm. I'm going to put one of the Good Antec 40mm fans on it, and see if the temperature goes down. I don't use the On board Graphice, I use a 16x PCI-E 8400GS for graphics. Thank you and GM both for your efforts!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

    Shaff,

I don't know. I'm not very familiar with older generation AMD Motherboards at all. It's in a location on the motherboard where the SouthBridge chip is usually located. You can see by the link, there is only one chip with a heatsink on it, and it does get pretty warm.

The board was a replacement for the original Foxconn Motherboard that came with the original T Series eMachine. I bought it mainly for it's ability to handle a 95w CPU, knowing that I would be replacing the Athlon2 x2 7750BE in it, with my 630 Quad, down the road. I just didn't think it would be quite this soon, but the price was right, at $150! If I had waited another month, I could have gotten the Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz for the same money from TigerDirect. They had them on sale for $150 LOL!! no big! I love my 955BE!

My CoolIt ECO-R120 Water Cooler should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. I had it boot up into Windows at 4.0GHz, just to see if it would, by raising the multiplier, and leaving the 3.8GHz settings alone. I just didn't want to push my luck with the Freezer 64, so I shut it right down. I am going to find out what it will do though, but not at one single .001v over 1.550v. AMD says that that's the maximum safe voltage for my CPU, and I'm not going to go exceed it. If it will run a stable, cool and Productive 4.0GHz, then that's what it will stay at. By productive I mean I'm going do 10 passes with IBT and do some Folding, completing a week or so of Work Units before I'll pronounce it completely Stable. Then I can get the "Cuda" technology part with my video card working and put up some serious folding numbers!

With the ECO, I'm going to switch the fan that comes with it to my present rear 68 CFM 1200 rpm Slipstream, before I install it. I spoke (email) to Scythe, and they said that there should be no problem using it on the ECO as the exhaust, behind the cooler. My Cudo's to Sam, as they did advise me not to put it on the other side of the Rad, because it wasn't designed for that much back pressure and could harm the motor. I want to maintain the same case airflow I have now, to see if anything changes for the better. If I did the math and my guesstimations are right, everything should run cooler. The big unknown at the moment, is all the new open space created by the Freezer 64 not being in the way of the airflow anymore. I'm hoping that I can put my video card back in the 16x slot again, as it will be out in the open, without the side of the Freezer 64 creating a narrow tunnel between them. It should be much quieter, too!

"The new NVIDIA nForce2 Gigabit MCP delivers industry-leading Gigabit Ethernet performance, advanced NVIDIA Firewall technology for critical system security, Serial ATA (SATA), and easy to use NVIDIA RAID technology. "
looks like Nvidia's term for their "super fancy" southbridge...

Russ, I'd be interested in knowing which Webcam you have, and your rating of it compared to something seen on television. You know what I mean. Those snazzy infrared shots filmed in movies ;) How would you compare yours to a high quality movie. 10/10 being generally flawless. 0/10 being worthless. I could be quite interested in this technology ;) Or do most webcams have a setting for this? I would think such a setting to be somewhat expensive...But I know/understand darn little about this technology.

    Oman7,
It's just that it can see infra red because it has 6 infrared lights on it, supposedly for "Night Vision". The light's effective range isn't over 2.5", so as long as you stay outside that range, and it's dark, it shows the hot spots. Gas Stove burners look almost bright white, surrounded by Greenish Purple! The Camera still has you in the picture, but it's very dark. The Camera is a Sabrent WCM-6LNV. The Infrared is there, but it"s almost useless!

It's about the size of an Ice cube, and at 1.3MP and 640x480, it sucks! No where near the picture quality of the M$ VX-3000 1.3MP webcam! Hey, it was $10, delivered! I didn't even want one, but Russell got one for me anyway! I talk to people all the time on IMs, but if it's a Video call, I can't close my IM window and get any work done! Usually I have it unplugged from the USB! That solves that problem! LOL!!
