    Sam,
Not bleak, but realistic. February 18th, my Doctors sat me down and told me 6 months, tops! I'm not fussed about it, as everybody lives till they die anyway.

You remember my friend Gina, from AD, lives in Chicago. The one I built the E4300/P5N-E for. She's 38, a severe Diabetic, had just started Dialysis. She had surgery to remove most of her lower insides, and had a stroke a few days later. She can now write and sit up, but she still can't talk. She tried to phone me, just to tell me that she loved me! You never know what will be.

I'll be 66 on the 24th, and I've had a great life. I had a great Career that took me all over the world, to places most people only get to dream about. By all rights I should not have even been here for the last 10 years, yet here I am, always looking forward to tomorrow. Still doing the things I enjoy doing. I have good friends and family, I care about, who care about me. Frankly, I couldn't think of a better way to go. Like I said, I'm not fussed at all, because when you think about it, it's nothing more than the final act of life! The curtain closes, and it's done!

    Warmest Regards,
    Russ

Wow, very sorry to hear that. Glad you're relatively upbeat about it though, can't imagine anything worse than spending the last moments of your life unhappy. Will be a sad day though to see you go, I know we've had plenty of arguments, but you are by far the longest standing aD member I've had regular contact with, I'm pretty sure you and I were conversing in threads back in my first few months at aD in 2004. That seems a long long time ago now!

It would be nice if someone you knew could post here on your behalf with what happens later on. If you were to disappear from the forums, we could only speculate, perhaps wrongly, which I'm sure you wouldn't want!

    Sam,
We've had our arguments and disagreements, true. Some times I took it too far, and for that, I am sorry. Still, I've never considered you anything less than a friend that I can always depend on to fill me in on things that you know far more about than I do. Lots of good people here too.

It's funny, I've thought about telling, and even hinted at it for a while now, and there are a few members who do know, that haven't said a word (bless them), I just felt that when you are at 4 months into a 6 month plan, that it was time. You know me well enough to know that I just wouldn't give up. Like I said, here I am still looking towards tomorrow, and planning more things to do. Besides, I still have one more build to do for my Friend Fran in Massachusetts. That will make 428 builds in just under 22 years. :)

Have no worries that I will just disappear. Rest assured, My Good Friend Russell will notify all the forums that I belong to. If he is unable to, another Good Friend, Dave will take care of it for me. My 955BE is being left to Russell, and Oxi is going to Dave.

Like I said, as long as I can still do the things I can do, and enjoy doing them, I'll be happy!

Thanks again for the kind thoughts,
    Russ

OK Think I'll get the OCZ Onyx OCZSSD2-1ONX32G 2.5" 32GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
This should work best for me, as I'm using Vista Lite with SP1. Which only takes up 1.31 gig of space
The reason I'm using Vista is that WinXP recolonizes my 2T Samsung Drives in Computer Managment but won't initiate them. Wanting me to FORMAT again I guess. I've got too much Data on them for that

Rick: XP doesn't support the increased block size of the new 2TB drives. If you want them to work with XP, there is a jumper setting you can change so that they will be visible. This will almost certainly need to be done before they are formatted though.
The X25-V is the SSD I intend to buy for my first SSD system, as it's far more reasonably priced and seems to perform adequately aside from sequential write, which I rarely need.

I'm afraid I agree with sam. Really afraid LOL! Nah, totally logical. The real world differences are minor. So price becomes the main factor really. Intel wins out in this area ;) I'm afraid even they're out of my current price range though :( Perhaps not in a few weeks/months though...

Although if I were russ, I'd wanna experience the badboy :D

Intel doesn't win out on all prices. There is no X25-M smaller than 80GB and cheaper than £166. So technically, if you only need 50GB, the OCZ Vertex 2 is better value, in that sense. Of course, if you don't care for sustained write either, the £88 X25-V is the best value of all.

Here's an interesting bit I just came across at Overclock.net
I googled "temperatures Core i7 930", and was very surprised to find that these high temps seem to be the norm for the 920, 930 and 940 when overclocked. When people inquire about this on many other forums and tech places, everybody seems to feel that these temps are fine??? My old Pentium D-940 didn't get that hot at 3.94GHz. Even my older 3.0GHz Prescot didn't get that hot at 3.83gHz. Just an observation on my part, but load temps of 74-81C seem awful warm to me. Am I not understanding or missing something here?

Hmm, I'm not sure if the Samsung drives are 4K block or not. The first WD 2TB drive (WD20EADS) was not but the second (WD20EARS) was.

That's just like the temps I'm getting, which was my reason for trying WC. With a cool ambient it's not too bad once it warms up it's impossible to cool (I'm hitting 68C at stock right now).

68C at stock? which cooler are you using, and how warm is the room?

It's the Noctua D14 :( I never measured the room temp but it was about ~30C probably.

That's insane, sounds like it's not applied properly, or you're definitely not using stock volts!
