question guys. my buddy at work that has the biostar board with the I5 on it. he is wanting to get a 60gb SSD. i told him i dont think the ssd will work on his board
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138159

the SSD are sata II and his board is sata I. i thought that the sata II and sata It didnt matter, but isnt the ssd's the newer sata 6gb/s versus the normal sata 3gb/s???

    no, 6Gb/s is S-ATA 3. 3Gb/s is S-ATA 2. 1.5Gb/s is S-ATA 1. All of them are interchangeable.
On top of that, SSDs aren't S-ATA 3 yet.
Futher still, that board is S-ATA 2, not S-ATA 1, the same version of S-ATA that the SSDs use.

Alright then, one or two SSDs are. The SSD isn't specified and the vast majority of SSDs are still S-ATA 2.

Ahh hah! That crucial has had my eyes trained on it for several days now. But I don't like the way windows/software handles caching at present. I wish programs like 7Zip would use my Ram for temporary storage. At least give me the option of where/what to use for temp storage. If software were smarter in that respect, I'd have bought one a lot sooner ;) Yes, I worry about the longevity of SSD's. As should everyone :p

The Sequential Access - Read up Sequential Access - Write is pretty fast tho!

Whenever I checked the connections on it, it only had two sata ports on the one lead. I was assuming that I could only either put an optical drive or a HDD in the computer. When I got the optical drive thru it fell into place as to why the PSU had the four prong adaptors. (usually for the chassis fans). I had already sent it back assuming that there wasn't enough connectors. In the long run it would have worked fine with the differnt connectors. This is the first computer I am building so this is all new to me, check the signature.

    Will,
If it was me I would buy the OCZ Vertex2. It's on sale for the same price, but with a $20 MIR, so it's $149. It's faster, has better redundancy and longer MTBF than the GSkill! Same read/write speed, but access time is half that of the GSkill!

Depends what you're looking for. I'd recommend the X25-V I bought in a heartbeat. The continuous write speed isn't much, but if you think about it, you almost never use continuous write other than when installing large programs, and any SSD fills up very quickly. Where it counts is random read/write and sequential read, for which the X25-V is still a top 5 performer, despite its tiny price.

    sam,
The Intel is only 40GB, a little small for an OS drive in my eyes. The OCZ is almost 8 times faster at continuous write and 105MB/s faster at continuous read, with far better redundancy in error correction. I would spend the extra $30 for the OCZ!

To be fair, what use is the extra continuous write speed? The entire drive will fill in 19 minutes at that speed, and error correction is a non-issue as well, it's not as if SSDs are prone to errors. The only benefit the OCZ has is being bigger. It's $40 more not $30, and that's after a $20 rebate. The Intel is $60 less up front. 60GB is little more use as an OS drive than 40GB. It will fit windows and precious little else. In my opinion, the drives are pretty equal.

Here is the part where i say I'm glad i recently purchased the 50GB Vertex2. I tested it and read speeds were as advertised. Write speeds were a shade lower than advertised but perhaps it is my older x38/ICH9R mobo.

Depends what you were writing. Some tests will read different to others.

Question guys..I tried to boot up my computer and it wont boot.

I pushed the power button and there is no power at all.. no fans spinning or LED lights coming on. I took the mobo out of that case because I thought it would have been a case short...however whenever I put it in a new case and connected everything up I get the same problem. It wouldn't be the PSU as it is a brand new one and works fine...the question is...Any ideas on what the problem is with it?

You have presumably tested another power supply? New components can still be faulty :p
If not the PSU, and you've checked all the connections are in (the 8-pin CPU connector especially), it could be the GPU, memory or the board. Do you have a case beep speaker plugged in? If not, can you get one? (Old cases came with them, new cases, not so much). If you have a speaker hooked up and you get beeps you can identify the fault. If no beeps even with a speaker fitted, it may be a faulty board.

you say this is a new case? Then try shorting the two power pins on the mobo. It might be that you have connected the front pannel up badly.

Ugh, misinterpreted the post. Quite right, I thought he said he got power but no activity. No power at all and it's more likely the PSU or the connections.
