    Sam,
It figures, I complain and things start working again! LOL!! Right after I posted, I started getting notifications again! It wasn't going to page 1, only back to the last properly working page. I'm just glad it's hopefully fixed.

That's strange russ. I get notifications, but at the beginning of a new page, it brings me to page one of the forum. Until enough posts have been made, it would seem.

    Oman7,
It's ok! This thread just started working properly again. So has the AMD Building thread, and the scan thread.

That's why I have backups of everything XD

I'm assuming the first '5' is a typo, should be a '3' imo.

Same quality control process (I think), the drive is placed in a category based off how it does in certain tests. All WD Black drives meet enterprise standards so there is a difference assuming the other drives do not (I don't believe they do but I could be wrong). Personally I only buy Black series drives since my data is worth the extra money to me.

Also you can find some pretty good deals on the FASS drives, I picked up two for 135US in June.

That sounds great to me, I'd sign up lol. I can't complain about my current ISP though since I get way more than I pay for by being near the backbone :)

Red_Maw, I make backups of everything too, but it would be unfortunate to have to rip all/most of that data back to the hard drive. At least stuff that I like to have at my fingertips ;) I can't wait til they lower the ridiculous prices on Blu-Ray media. 1 25gb backup, is a lot better than 6 dvd backups :D

Yah, the performance of the black drives + being an enterprise drive is certainly worth the extra money. I can definitely see the advantages of the Green drives though. Quiet, price is good, probably run cooler too. Which would remove a slight temperature variant from the case ;)

ddp: Ah ok, I thought he used to be a staff member, though I was never sure exactly how staff members and mods differed.
Maw: No backups here yet, I know what I need to buy, but it costs £580 :S 14TB of space is expensive! You're correct on the typo by the way.
The quality control process, and indeed the performance tests aren't really relevant any more, as the Caviar Blue line is no longer being expanded, so all the 7200rpm drives are Blacks, all the 5400rpm drives are Greens. If a drive does exceptionally well in testing i imagine it goes into the enterprise grade equivalent of these two products. I've not seen FASS drives anywhere near that cheap, and certainly never seen them cheap in the UK :p
Too noisy for me though, the WD1001FALS is bad enough!
As for the ISP, nah you wouldn't want it, they charge per-gigabyte, you need to be rich!
Omega: The green drives do run a good 10ºC cooler than the Blacks, but for me, it's mainly that I can't hear my 10 WD Greens over the 3 7200rpm drives that are in that system, so to replace it all with 7 new WD Greens, sounds good to me :)

I've been asked to mod several other sites. I turned them down. Not because they don't pay, but because it's too much responsibility :p

I've never heard of a paid moderator. This is why people disrespecting mods is such a bad thing :p

Dang that ISP would bankrupt me :\

Didn't know that the blue line was dead, kinda makes sense since they were basically the same thing as the black drives.
I saw them for sale when searching the model "WD20000LSRTL", although it's been so long I can't be 100% it was USD seeing how well GBP matches.

I back up to other hdd's so transfer time is rather minimal over a gigabit connection. Only one drive has ever failed me though, and that was before I had backups lol.

I think it happened again russ. You forgot to knock on wood, when you said "This thread just started working properly again. So has the AMD Building thread, and the scan thread."
My browser seems to remember that I visited page 516, and yet it doesn't exist yet. Somethings definitely buggered with their code ;)

Well...I guess it exists now :D

Red_maw, dvd discs are cheaper than hard drives :p 20$ for 435Gb is pretty cheap ;)

Yes I know, I prefer hdds. Much more versatile and easier to work with. I've got a bunch of dvds I don't ever plan on using from when I used to use them lol.

My verbatims will probably survive at least 3 - 4 generations of mechanical drives. I can't speak highly of my hard drives. If I do, they'll fail. It's my luck in the scheme of things. I have this knack for hexxing things when I speak highly of them. I call my car a piece of $h!t and it keeps on going. Go figure LOL!

DVDs not so practical for me. Apart from the fact that 1400 dual layer DVDs are extremely expensive, I would also have nowhere to put them. Plus, I'd have to span many of my films across 2, 3 or even 4 discs. 9GB isn't very much.
