Vista has command over everything in the PC, bootloader and everything. XP is a little more forgiving in that regard. For all its modern 'user friendly' features, Vista is if anything, easier to break. All that UAC for nothing! lol

We want Asus' piles of BIOS features, Gigabyte's awesome auto-overclocking, Asus' radical technology and Gigabyte's across the board build quality. Am I right? :p

This is epic news, poor old MSI will have a tough time ahead...

We've been through all of this before! The merger never happened! The deal was canceled! Right after that the 965P-DS3 motherboard came out and reversed GigaBytes fortunes! I even posted links on this! Doesn't anyone around here read links? It's very simple, the Government over there tried to force this merger after Foxxcon failed in a Takeover bid of GigaByte, and both wound up refusing to do it in the end, even though they had agreed to!

    cincyrob,
Not your fault! The links on the net are getting to be a real problem as so many of them are out of date or broken. It causes many problems for anyone trying to do research on anything! It's going to get worse too as the broken or old links will continue to add up too!

I have used "ophcrack" to crack passwords on Vista with great success, here's the link, http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

I believe it also works on XP, however, I have not tried it.

Also, have you tried to just hitting "enter" on the password, there might not be a password?

    Edit: for spelling

And that's the best kind of password there is. So crafty. You keep on trying passwords, but there is none!

The problem is that it's looking for an Administrator PW in dos! It won't let me run anything but the XP CD! I can boot from the XP disk, but none of the tricks that work for user passwords work on the Admin PW!

So this won't help at all?(You said you can boot the XP disc, so this should work?): link
Somebody brought their Sony Vaio to me to fix the same problem and I used this guide. There was another livecd that I also used one other time that worked perfectly, but I forgot the name....probably wouldn't work for you though since you can't boot anything but the xp cd....

    mrk44,
I've been straining my brain and I can't ever remember seeing a boot disk ask for an Administrator Password to continue with the boot! I didn't even know what it was for a second. In letters about half the size of the normal DOS letters. My brain went WTF? I'm begining to wonder if this might be a virus or something.

The lady that owns it said it was just there one night and they haven't been able to access the computer since. She swears that no one but she and her Husband have touched the computer. She runs the latest Kasperski, so a Virus would be questionable but not impossible! I just figured someone did it to be mean, but she says no!

What it's got me doing, is scratching my head!

    Regards,
    Russ
