I was just pointing out that a G92 GTS would be better than an 8800GT if choosing a single card!

    G84 for the 8600GTS.

    I assumed Russ was talking about the G80 8800GTS and G92 8800GTS.

Edit after seeing new post: Really? All the tests I've seen place the 8800GTS G92 a mere 5% above the 8800GT. If you find it cheap, great, but otherwise the 8800GT is the better deal, better yet the HD4850 since it's on par with the 9800GTX+.

Ok thanks for the fast reply the only thing that my MOBO can run one card @ 16X and the other @ 8X so and the core clock of that garhpics card is 675mhz and the memmory clock is @ 1008 stock. so what the price factor we are talking here because that might be a big issue. i am a not a hevey gaming but i like my games and i wont be running any hd apps or movie amy time in the fueatur. so what would you recermend that i do because now you have got me stck in two places.

Even less worth it. 16x / 8x mobos decrease the performance you can get a bit further. Stick with the single GPU or upgrade to a better one.

    sammorris,
Yes I was because that was one of the two recommended singles, and the G92 GTS beats both the GTs and the G80/GTS, so it would be a better choice! The G92 also runs cooler!

The 4850 is the fastest card. Not quite twice as fast as the 8800Gt, but it's up there. The 8800GTS is just a plain bad deal because for 15 dollars more a 4850 is MUCH better. If you're low on cash the 8800GT is a good deal.

Indeed, but the 8800GT kicks the backside of the old 8800GTS G80. The G92 8800GTS is almost inconsequentially faster than the 8800GT. Given that the 8800GTS is the same price as the significantly superior HD4850, why buy the 8800GTS when you can either have cheaper (8800GT) or faster? (HD4850). Don't mean to sound unfair Russ, but it's genuinely not the card I'd buy.

    sammorris,
Not everyone wants an Ati card! You just got rid of an Ati 4870, you said it was a "piece of crap"! If you recall I PM'd you about the MSI Boozer just linked to, a while back as I was thinking about getting one!

Every time I buy an Ati card, there's always driver issues! I don't seem to get that with the nVidia cards!

No, I said that about the X2, which I've kept. The 4870 was absolutely golden, and the X2 is fine, I just was just having a stupid moment, it's actually working really well now.

Also, I wasn't saying don't get nvidia. I was saying use either the 8800GT or the HD4850, just not the 8800GTS.

tbh i have had probelms with both ati and nvidia, although hardly any for ATI on vista 64, where as on vista 64 with nvidia, it was a minimum of 3 bsods a day

talking about all this speed makes me think

should i get a LT1 or try and find a 426 HEMI again?

the LT1 will get me there faster in the 1/4 mile but top end i think the HEMI might get me there faster??? i just dont know????????

Well I've personally never had driver issues with either ATI or NVIDIA. I personally think it's silly that you wont get an ATI card because of issues you might have had in the past. You have to look at what's currently going on, and currently ATI is top for performance and reliability. YES, reliability. ATI has better drivers these days. Especially on Vista.

It's like saying you don't want to buy a Core 2 CPU because the P4 sucked.

Agreed. I'm guilty as charged of not using nvidia products when I should have, and acknowledge the 8800GT was a better buy than the HD3870. This time round though, it's definitely ATI for the win. The performance and stability of these cards is through the roof.

Lol an 8800GS, that's going to be a real slowpoke compared to the HD4850...

The computer is not for gaming. It's for sound design work and what not. He guy just wanted to occasionally watch HD movies so I figured I would get him something decent.
