You can't "read" the codes. Most of what we go by is trial and experiment. If you see a particular batch, and lots of people who got that batch report high OCs with it then that batch is labeled good. If not then it's a bad batch.

We don't know ANYTHING about Nehalem Ocing yet. You're just going to have to wait and see.

Russ, if you would notice Anandtech uses a L7** batch CPU. Sam's is a L8**.

Here are some quotes from people who have the L8** batch Q6600s.

Of course Sam has HIS overclocked to 3.15Ghz but his fan wont work lol. Wish him luck!

    abuzar1,
That's about what I figured! This is a technical Forum, and "Everybody Says" it's this or that, is totally meaningless without some technical information to show why! Otherwise it assumes far too much, without proof!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

Russ, yeah sometimes I do that too. Just repeat something I read somewhere. This time is comes from people who have it though.

Running at 3.24Ghz, 1.408V (as always), so far no issues. 3.33Ghz crashed in windows, 3.42 & 3.60 didn't even make it that far. Still can't get manual settings to work on my board though, they just get ignored.

Yup, but it doesn't necessarily mean much. I had a X3220(Xeon Q6600) with that same VID and it did 3.6ghz stable with 1.4v.

but the xeons are binned better than the regular q6600 and normally have more headroom for overclocking don't they?

No, not really. They can just handle more heat.
