    this was done ages ago, it was also defeated ages ago.

    they've had minor success with Hardware based DRM, if anything thats the direction DRM is headed. its already on your processors, in your LCD panels and its only a matter of time before its on every memory card.

    Yeah! I'm gonna have 8Gb of memory again :D Just bought these badboys.

    That would sure be unfortunate if they were incompatible though. I really haven't ever had any issues regarding RAM compatibility though. This will likely help with both gaming and my multitasking habits ;) Apparently they overclock nicely too. Though I probably won't do too much of that. And since ebay's seller fees are turning me off, I probably won't sell my current Ram through them :p I'll probably need them in the future anyway. Next weekend is gonna be fun! This weekend I plan on finally installing my replacement V-raptor. Bring on the games!

    Probably get ~$5 back too, since I use a cashback service.

    I've always had good luck with Mushkin Enhanced memory but if you read the NewEgg feedback from the bonehead experts they normally give them bad reviews. I see on this set no one has hacked on the memory yet though, LOL.

    I just bought a SSD on sale, not the one I wanted but it was cheap, got memory for my new notebook and a replacement Blu-ray Burner. So now I'll have 16GB RAM, only CAS 9 I wanted CAS 7 but it was on sale, and a BD-RE burner in my i5 notebook. I can do movie ripping and reproduction anywhere and have enough RAM to run several VM's at once, which will be great for customer support plus scripting and other stuff.

    From NewEgg I spent ~$211 and got logo top cheap BDR media plus free 4GB SD's with the RAM purchase;

    SanDisk Ultra SDSSDH-120G-G25 2.5" 120GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $124.99

    G.SKILL 4GB Micro SDHC Flash Card w/ SD Adapter Model FF-TSDG4GA-C4 (x2)qty $0.00

    G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory (x2)qty $29.99

    Optical Quantum 25GB 4X BD-R 25 Packs Logo Top Blu-ray Disc $16.99

    Here is the Blu-ray 6x Burner I got for $95 shipped from 3B Tech;
    Panasonic UJ-240 6x BD-R / 4x BD-RE

    The Blu-ray's are for one of my friends and before you hack on them KEVIN I already know they are not premium media or as you might say crap media but, they will work fine and he doesn't need the best. :) LOL

    Actually, I've had pretty decent luck with the optical quantums. Provided the Dyes are the PHILIPR04 type ;) They don't scan pretty like the Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims, but they do seem to have good compatibility. Provided they don't get too scratched, they should play well enough. Longevity however, remains to be seen.

    The SSD looks good Steve. I might just consider it in february. Sandisk has had my respect for quite some time. Certainly with their flash department ;)

    I believe they are the 04 Philips which is why I bought them and also have had very good luck with that media. Like I said before I have BD-R Philips that are still good after 3+ years so unless like you pointed out it is a bad batch of dyes my friend should be fine.

    I just couldn't pass up the deals so hopefully all will be fine now I'm waiting for Russ to drill me on the CAS cycles being so slow, you just can't win sometimes.... LOL

    Plug it in, and you'll see just how easy it is. They're generally plug and play ;) I worked on someones laptop recently. Their LCD is dead, but it has an S-video port, and a VGA that are still working. So at least they can use it, til they can get a replacement.

    Happy new year everyone :)

    On another note, I finally got my replacement V-raptor drive installed. A fresh install, and some programs later, and it's doing WAYYY better than the last one ever did. I might even bench the drive today, to see if it's somehow better all around. I think my last one may have had problems from the get go. This one is also notably quieter :) I wonder if WD pulled it off their VIP shelf LOL! Must have been saving it for me! *touch wood*

    The only time I RMA'ed a drive to WD the replacement I sent was a different grade to the retail ones, it was certainly quieter, not sure about the speed.

    The only time I ever RMA'd a drive, I sent in my Seagate 500GB 7200.10 620AS and got a far superior 630AS. Better noise, better reliability, even slightly better performance.

    At least now I have some idea of how loud the drives should be. Not very loud at all :) Still getting an SSD in about 6 weeks :D

    Normally when I RMA a drive(s), and I've done tons of them over the years, it is exactly the same drive I originally had but is in great shape and lasts a long time on the refurbished unit.

    Kevin,

    I get my SSD on Thursday but won't be able to play with it until Saturday unfortunately. I wonder if Russ is still happy with his drive?

    Well, I wish I could say the same about my last refurb. Hopefully this one will serve me better. No signs of ill effects! :D

    Could be an option for my brother. He and his wife have a new laptop, but that notebook hard drive is really slow. I installed adblock for them, disabled the UAC, installed Firefox 9, and they seem to be pleased with it for now. But it is noticeably slower than a desktop computer. It really shouldn't be so slow. I firmly believe an SSD will kick it in the butt. I told them to be patient, and let me play with one for a few months come february. Let me acquire some knowledge about them ;)
