DSL is a tunnel type protocol so if your modem is not connected directly to a PC you will not be able to connect to it, if there is a switch or router between them. IF you can't connect to a router in front of your modem you must have the wrong IP address or your router is froze up and won't respond, in which you'll need to reboot the router. Although my modem gets messed up I've never not been able to connect to my router behind it but it could cause the router to flake out so maybe that is what causing you headaches. Speedtest is wrong for multiple reasons one of which Sam touched on but not limited to that. The big problem with cable vs. DSL is that DSL is implemented over very poor twisted pair phone lines where lose and noise are a big problem. When the phone systems are upgraded to fiber and better switches/routers are used then DSL may perform much better. In fact people that can get 40Mb DSL hookup most likely have that style of connection. @Rich, That last post was a reasonably short post, what's up with that are you feeling ill? LOL
harvardguy, A parking ticket in Jersey City NJ, USA on 01/27/97. Both the car and I migrated west to Nevada 09/03/96. Actually I have the assistant city clerk to thank for finding the answer right in their own records. It took her all of 30 seconds to discover there were two identical 87 Fieros registered on the same day. Mine got tag #ABY-4568, and the other one got tag #ABY-4569, and was registered in the county where the ticket that started all of this for me, was issued! Record expunged, License Probable! Best Regards, Russ
Oman7, All 5 speeds had getrag gearboxes, and were only available with the V6 GT and Formula SE models. The basic 6 and 4 got the 4 speed GM. Fun car to drive! Russ
It's a great car to drive! But you have to be careful... I had that exact car but in Dark Red with Silver trim. I had mine tuned up to about 150 mph which was pushing. At 100 mph it felt like you were doing 50-60 mph, sweet ride!
my "friendly" neighbor to the east has 2 fieros, 1 tarped in backyard & 1 in garage for spare parts for 1 in backyard.
That's crazy that Stevo had the same car that Russ has - 100 mph felt like 50-60. Wow! Not to mention DDP's crazy neighbor with the junkyard dog, who keeps his main fiero under wraps and hasn't driven it in two years, but keeps another one for spare parts just in case he ever leashes the pit bull and actually drives out past the chain link fence. And I think Miles the animator, actually had a red fiero in college at SCAD in Georgia - I'll have to ask him. That was back in his LOUD rap music days - he had an enormous subwoofer in the back with a huge power amp. LOL [I finished sleeping dogs and they congratulated me, and invited me to continue to play for accomplishments. I might participate now in some of the absolutely wild races all over Hong Kong, where 50-60 miles an hour feels like 200. The karate was an absolute bit*h during that game - PC lag was nowhere near as responsive as the console walkthroughs. I got through up to mission 39, where death awaited me on 20 attempts. Boring! To finally finish I got a health cheat, from swedish YouTube guy LinGon, who has a nice channel, which carried me past that roadblock, and through the last couple missions, almost to the very end, and just before it turned into machine guns only which was no problem. But the cheat started interfering with the main game engine, causing multiple steam reboots and cache integrity verification, so I tried finishing that last battle the legit way. After a dozen deaths where somehow the game forgot to let me leave the car and walk into the compound with the enormous knife I had just taken from my last assailant (or maybe I dropped it after killing him and forgot to pick it up again - a later YouTube walkthrough showed me that unfortunate mistake) I got the very bright idea of jumping into one of the compound parking lot automobiles, and game experience has taught me that I am quite adept at running over pedestrians. LOL]
harvardguy, it is not 2yrs but at least 15yrs since the car in the backyard was driven there. the wheels are totally exposed to the elements & the car is not on blocks.
Woah! - and I thought I was exaggerating!! You've got to be kidding. What about the junkyard dog. LOL! Blaze - if you happen to stop by - some new full-size screenshots up on the other "Official PC Gaming Thread" http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/328/677037#5761484 Jeff, you're gonna laugh. Remember that one time that Sam was testing some stuff, and left his side intake disconnected - his most important fan of all? Things were still okay, but .... I just opened my side door to connect power to the 750 MB drive that I once-in-a-while clone my 1 TB to, and I discovered the fan splitter disconnected - in other words the last time I put the door on, I forgot to connect the twin phantek 140 intake fans, ie I have been running on 4 intakes, not the normal 6 ever since I finalized crossfire, with HIS #2 on top, which would have been two weeks ago. Remember last week when the first card was 85 degrees, but still stable? And I said, "My cards always ran cooler than this." I wonder how my temps will be now. Duhhhhhhh!! I am stooooopid. Rich
So probably buying another second-hand Antec NeoPower Blue 650W. Second generation with Seasonic internals and modular cabling. Kept clean and wasn't loaded much. 95W Phenom II Tri-Core, 5850, 2 HDDs. Still intend on a Seasonic X Series come the holidays, but Antec has been good to me.
I'm not a Antec fan, actually I don't like them, but hey if it works well for you Jeff stay with it as there would be no need to pay the extra for the Seasonic's when you are running perfectly fine with the status quo. Just my opinion, Stevo
Well it has Seasonic internals and is essentially another 620HX so I guess I don't have much issue with it.
Indeed. As much as I don't like supporting $ony, I will buy genuine NEC chipped optiarcs for my dvd burning needs. I don't consider them to be a $ony product. They're NEC's. $ony simply paid for the right to put their name on it. A wise decision really. Those drives are nothing short of amazing. The right ones anyway Can't wait for a genuine NEC chipped blu-ray burner. I like my LG's, but it's become apparent they're nothing like my Optiarcs were for Dvds. I'd sure like to find the equivalent! But I guess you run the risk of a lemon with any product Even Western digital apparently. Did you confirm a dead/dying 3Tb Sam? Mine are still solid *touch wood* Fact is I want more of them. I think I'd rather wait for a 5 - 10Tb drive though. Frankly though, It'll probably be SSD. It certainly should be
I'll be honest, I haven't had the time to look at it to determine if it was the drive or the controller to blame. For now I'm only using 2TB drives in live storage. It's now come to the stage where it's cheaper to buy a 64GB SSD for an entry level machine than a 500GB mechanical drive (the smallest common size now). SSDs are growing quite rapidly at long last - I'm looking at purchasing a 180GB SSD for c. 50% more than my 40GB originally cost me a couple of years back. Agreed on the Seasonic internals, Antec PSUs are very variable, but if you know what's on the inside, that's arguably what matters, and they have made some good units over time. The low-end Zalman PSUs for example are pretty questionable, but the high-end units with different OEMs are pretty good.
Sam, Newegg has this OCZ Vertex 3, 120GB Sata III SSD on sale for $85 with a $10 MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227706 Russ
Thanks anyway for the offer Russ, but apart from living in the UK and not the US so newegg being of no value to me, I prefer to stick to the Intel SSDs. Admittedly they use Sandforce controllers now rather than bespoke Intel ones, but the experiences of others with OCZ SSDs as well as my own makes me not interested. OCZ SSDs have failure rates higher than most mechanical drives, and are one of the main contributing factors to why SSDs still have a higher mean failure rate than mechanicals. Conversely, whatever you say about how well Intel do business or how price-competitive or otherwise their products are, they build stuff properly, and always have done. Over here the 120GB Vertex 3 is £79.34 which works out to be $107 before tax, so it's a little more expensive over here, admittedly.
