The force of a fair size piece of disk did that, about 1.5' from my head. That's a pretty stout piece of steel it bent, for something so light! Looked like a planned escape, to me! LOL!! Sounded like the crack of a rifle.

As much as I hate that line when it's false, in this instance I'm pretty sure it's true. I've always tried to maintain a point of honesty on wide public forums, plenty of people who don't post will read - be honest, how many times have you needed to google something and found the answer in a discussion thread just like this one, but not needed to sign up and post?

Well, you can continue hating that line then, because it is false! Since you seem to feel that it's true, how about a little proof of same! You have to admit that telling someone they are wrong without offering any tangible proof that they are, is pretty lame, and I am less than pleased that you seem to be questioning my honesty, and I do resent that!

I generally don't use other discussion forums posts, unless they show tangible links, pertinent to our forum discussion, otherwise it's just that many more meaningless words and expressionism's added to the pot, with no facts to support them, that muddies the waters for everyone, IMO!

I'm combing through my DVDHounds emails at the moment to see if it's in there. Since the site has long since bit the dust, I have to resort to gmail search rather than searching the site itself.

 

It was a part of this thread somewhere way, way back. It's really not worth dredging up and if Russ wants to recollect different now so be it, I personally could care less as it really isn't worth the time.

 

Agreed, I've spent about half an hour looking through stuff, and haven't found anything one way or the other yet, more trouble than it's worth. I know what happened, because I was very active on the forum then, far moreso than now, and it's a story I've actually reiterated to people in the past as a useful example of why not to buy terrible PSUs. As vivid as forum stories go, it's not something I would easily forget.

 

I don't want to be stories the mud here, but from what I remember it was also the case of a cheap psu burning down the curtains.

Let's look at this logically. The Asrock motherboard didn't come into the equation until after the fire! It was purchased as a replacement for the one that had the bad PSU. BTW, the original Win 95 motherboard was made by ECS, under a variety of names and models.

As far as it supposedly being an Asrock motherboard burning the curtains, I've never seen flames from a motherboard yet, and I didn't see any from it. All the smoke and sparks were coming out the back of the PSU. That doesn't sound like any motherboard fire to me, it sounds like a bad PSU!

Here's the final benchmarks for my 1090t. I'm pretty satisfied!

I got a great deal on an Intel 330 120GB SSD, for $93. $83 w/$10 MIR. Fast does not cover it! About 20% faster than the Patriot Pyro 60GB SSD I had before, in spite of almost identical performance numbers. 60gb is just a little too small. In all I replaced the motherboard with a GigaByte GA-990XA-UD3, the DDR2 memory of the old 790X with 2x4GB DDR3 Cas 7 1600MHz Ripjaws, with timings of 7-8-8-24, and a GigaByte GTX550ti 1GB factory overclocked to 970MHz, another $83 special! I may get another, the next time they are on sale, just to fool around with SLI a bit. It's also a very competent gamer now. What amazes me the most is it's doing all of this at 3.8GHz. I've still got another 400MHz I can use, if I need it.



More than fast enough for me!

It's been a long time since I used Sandra. The last time I tried it, it caused instant BSODs on multiple known stable machines, so I abandoned it. The fact that the results varied with each version (despite the fact that you'd expect MIPS to be a constant value!) meant I no longer see it as being very relevant. Number-crunching benchmarks like SuperPi are better, although far from perfect. However, doing some rough extrapolations from how I know the CPUs to compare (using the Q6700 as a baseline) your score seems about what you'd expect from a 3.66-3.8Ghz Phenom II X6, so about right by the looks of things
I'd expect the i7 version of my CPU at its current clocks to come in about 89000-90000, but it being an i5 I imagine it will lose a little by comparison, so maybe 86000-87000, looks like our CPUs are about equal, yours perhaps a small margin faster

Sam, you can only make comparisons with the same version of Sandra or Aida as it's now called. I believe Russ is using a particular build for his own comparisons.

This version of Sandra is Sandra.Pro.Business.XIb.v2007.2.11.17. It's been the most consistent of all the version's of Sandra, since the plug was pulled on v2005! I just wanted something I could run that would indicate some sort of change, when an adjustment is made. XIb comes the closest to doing that!

Thanks again for the nudge Russ. 'MY' Laptop is working wonderfully now, thanks to the new LCD panel I finally have a laptop! And thank god it has 4Gb of Ram. CPU is a bit slow on some flashbased games. It's a dual core AMD APU. A whopping 1.3Ghz LOL! I'm sure an SSD would kick it in the butt I plan on doing that later. I've wanted a laptop for some time now. It only cost me 101USD to repair it Not bad for a used laptop!

 

I'm currently considering this drive for a replacement on the laptop. Should be interesting to watch the difference between the intel, and the Vertex 4. I have a feeling I would be interested in another Intel for my Desktop
