Absolutely, it's over 50% more powerful than the X600 Pro, and allows for High-res gaming (1280x1024 easily, and to an extent 1600x1200) and the 600 doesn't.

"The Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0GHz CPU is usually only seen in machines £200 more expensive than this PC" - not strictly true, and 3000mhz is a relatively low clock speed too, an A64 3200+ is better.

" CPU will easily outperform similar priced CPUs from rival brands" - well rival brands would be AMD so no it doesn't.

"This is coupled with 512MB of RAM memory" - i know its not a vastly expensive PC but 512 isn't a lot for gaming

"nVidia GeForce 6800XT" - is there such a thing? i'll assume this is a 6800GT. That's very good for a system of this price, really.

"All this is hosted on the ECS 915PL-A2" - an ECS motherboard. <shudders>

"a 16x Double Layered, Dual Drive DVD+/- R/RW burner is included" - not bad at all, but some people like a second DVD-ROM drive as well.

It comes with a card reader and 17" TFT monitor so not bad.
I'd have a look at www.savastore.com for some good UK-based deals. If you can get a better PC than that for the same price there I'll eat my hat.

EDIT: I won't eat my hat, because they've removed one of their better offerings, so actually you probably won't find a better PC. And the 6800XT does exist, but it performs a lot slower than a 6800GT does. TO be fair, that's actually not a bad deal.

Yeah, the 6800XT is alright, depending on what resolution you game at. If you use the full potential of 1280x1024 that 17" screens provide then you'll find you'll be better off with a "top minus 1" card of the prevous generation, i.e. 6800GT, X800Pro/XL.

You can't buy a PC that makes modern games look good for less than 2,000. Your best off with an Xbox 360 or PS3, if you want hardcore beatiful gaming, or build a wanting pc. "Good at gaming" is relative, to me, thats at least a $450 card of not the full 7800 gtx oc 512, plus a nice dual core pc you put it in. I don't know about you, but graphics to money= console

And you have to pay four figures for a TV that gives that decent resolution picture.
So no. Consoles have their advantages but true gaming is on a PC. Why else do you think consoles are still half the price of even a basic PC?

  20. Reasons?

    Reasons? Guest

    True gaming started on console.

Consoles are cheaper because they are sold at cost cost or a loss. There is a 1000% mark-up on PC components retail.

The $1000 Intel EE edition costs ~$69 to make. AMD has similar cost, but everything get's maked up hundreds of percent and generally a thousand percent by retail.

I believe the Xenon and Xenos each cost about $100-$130 to make.

The $400 Xbox 360 premium package cost $526 to make.

PC- You lose big money to isreal to hve a constantly outdated system if you want to enjoy th elatest and greatest Doom 3 or Unreal 3 engine based games. The compiler optimization is always changing for the latest CPUs and designed to leave your 3 month old one in the dust. Not only that but games alway look best on your rich neighboors PC and not yours.

On a console, everyone enjoys fully optimized centralized game specifications. Console games are built extremely well and look better every year because there is one set of hardware and dev tools get stronger and stronger and more optimized to keep tapping the potential that just keeps coming.

Console- You get a damn near free system, choose your games, and have fun on a huge HD tv or whatever you have. Sit on the couch, play madden with 3 friends. Or if you gam eon PC I guess they coudl sit on your lap....

PCs make money off the hardwar eand games, consoles are cheaper because they only make off the games.

How doe sit feels to be gaming single core with an AGP GPU? Not as good as paying less for a brand new Xbox 360 that outperforms it ten fold.
