I used Akasa TIM when cleaning and that seemed to do quite well, unfortunately the same can't be said for the Arctic Alumina paste I put on.

hi, I was going to build a new pc but when I saw the total cost($1700), I figured needed to shave about $700 off. I was planning to get:

    Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6V250F0 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $95
    Model #: 6V250F0
    Item #: N82E16822144013

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $163
    Model #: A8N-SLI Premium
    Item #: N82E16813131540

    Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply - Retail $67
    Model #: SP-500
    Item #: N82E16817103937

    OCZ Titanium 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model OCZ4002048ELDCTE-K - Retail $194
    Model #: OCZ4002048ELDCTE-K
    Item #: N82E16820227056

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 1GHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4200BVBOX - Retail $355
    Model #: ADA4200BVBOX
    Item #: N82E16819103547

I would appreciate any suggestions as to what I could get instead of something listed above that would be cheaper but not necessarily sacrifice preformance.

I am also looking for case. Besides what is posted above, I am also putting in two cd drives, a zip and a flopy drive. The cases I was looking at were the NZXT LEXA-NP Black/ Silver Aluminum/Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
    Model #: LEXA-NP
    Item #: N82E16811146018

    and

Thermaltake Armor VA8000SWA Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail
    Model #: VA8000SWA
    Item #: N82E1681113315

I would really appreciate any input on either of these case or a different case that would be better.

    Thanks

Cheers creaky, I'm after Weaponstuff (the version for 2004, I think it's 3.0)

eparker, I prefer the Lexa case it looks fantastic, but it is nevertheless expensive. You could also find cheaper memory. CAS 2.5 Kingston RAM (just ordinary stuff) should do fine and will be a lot cheaper.

Ok I have a geforce fx 5200 with 256 video memory. Is a geforce 6600 LE with 256 video memory better or is it the same or should I leave the fx 5200 in the pc and ignore the 6600 LE

The geforce 6600 LE with 256 video memory is better. It is 128-bit instead of 64-bit and its GPU is 500MHZ instead of 250MHZ.

pcrepair: So you don't experience any issues with any of those games?
Dante016: The 6600LE is mildly better than the 5200, but a 6600GT will see far better results.

Lol, it needs to be on the web - just go
[ img ]URL[ /img ] without the spaces in the square brackets.

E.g. the google logo's address is http://www.google.co.uk/logos/miro.gif at the moment, so

make sure there aren't any spaces anywhere. the brackets must be square and the end bracket must have a forward slash before the img, and the URL must include http://

    Ah. I see the problem.
The image mustn't be a redirect. Take the URL that your redirect goes to, not the one people must use.

Let's figure out how to post gifs through pm's instead of filling the thread with off topic posts ;)
