sure if you want to spend the money the 256mb card would be more than fine though.

    remember few games run 512mb

What you mean arn't the older games going to run on it? Like for instance css? Why wouldn't they run on it? I'm still sorta confused what you mean sam.

Oh ps thanks for all the help guys!

no no, few games NEED 512MB. It's not the 512MB in itself that gets you the better performance at the moment, it's the fact that the 512MB cards have faster RAM and faster cores, so they're faster overall. The RAM is what will make them faster still in the long run, not to mention the X1900's triple pixel shader ring bus!

Well the card you have is kinda rare right? I'm looking easier to obtain whats a good 256 because thats prob. all I need.

Well, no it's very easy to get hold of, but just damn expensive, unless you havea big monitor you're probably limited to 1280x1024 in which case you won't really need a card as poweful as the X1900XT or 7900GTX. How about:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102021

These are pretty rapid, and a lot less money than X1900XTs.

How much is that? Seems to be about en par with the X1800GTO, which over here is cheaper.

How much is the nvida going to set me back? I like nvida better than sapphire. I have a 19 inch flatscreen.

surely you like nvidia better than ATi? Sapphire are just a maker of Ati cards, like evga and xfx are makers of nvidia cards. with a 19" LCD, you'll be at 1280x1024 so both cards would be sufficient, but seriously dude, if it turns out the X1800GTO is cheaper for you, then go for that because it's pretty much as good as the 7800GTX. We all have our personal preferences, but you should really consider what you're better off getting, rather than just "who I like".

Ah but how much is it now? The X1800GTO is $191, the Biostar 7800GTX (closest I saw) is $400!!!! For similar performing cards I know what I'd have!

if your going to keep that 19' montior for awhile i would just go with the 256mb card to save a little money because you cant run the higher res. with that montior

Yep, my 2048x1536 is a curse and a blessing, it looks ludicrously good, but pushes me to get a faster PC. Not that I would have got any less of a PC if I had a 1280x1024 monitor though!

a 7600GS? er.. LAME! Lol they're alright, but X1800GTO or 7600GT at least, the GS won't see him running 1280x1024 for long!

The biggest "Monitors" are about 30", but HDTVs can do PC signals as well, so a 60" Plasma can be a PC monitor if you like, even if the resolution sucks.
