Because for me, doing it half assed gives me exactly the same result as doing it full assed. I'm never going to run SLi on it, so what's the issue? I won't need 8 S-ATA ports I don't think, and neither do I appear to need a huge heatpipe cooling system (the normal Asus chipset cooler seems to do the job well enough without the fan running!)

sorry if you took that as a flame... i was just saying.. what if he does decide to use the extra features.. all i am saying is that it is futureproofing his stuff...

Hey all i wanted to build a comp but im not really sure what parts to getor where to get them from.

as for purpose i just wanted a decent gaming machine. It cant be too expensive though. I wanna play games, but they dont have to run at the highest settings, average is fine. As for budget... uhh at this point hopefully less than $1000 but probably not huh?

    ooo thanks for the suggestions

hmm but i dont think i need a 150 gb harddrive lol maybe 100 that could drop the price a little right?
and does it matter how many sticks i use to make 2 GB of ram? i either have 2 256 or 2 512 that im not using right now i dont remember.

also when i googled the mobo (ddint look hard just skimmed) it seemed there were 2 versions a 16x and a 32x. two questions: 1) what does 16x and 32x mean? >_< 2) which one should i buy?

im trying to get it as cheap as possible but still have it perform well lol silly me

lol meh, futureproof schmutureproof, nothing is future proof, just future resistant!

The X1900XT is very very good, I can't exactly compare it to a 7900GT because I haven't owned one and I haven't seen a reliable bench of the 7900GT in the games I currently play. When I get FEAR I can tell you.

Xevlys: newegg for your parts. aabbccdd is off to a good start, but for your purposes, I'd say A8N-SLi Premium or even Just A8N-SLi, unless you're a hardcore gamer. for $1000 you're not. You DO NOT want a 150GB raptor, they're insanely fast and expensive for what they are. Here's my suggested shopping list...

CPU (yes, its socket 939, but if AM2 becomes cheaper then get that, theres not much of a plus and 939 is better for now) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103562

    Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131524
    RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145486
    HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148113
    GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130283
    PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817194003
    Optical http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827136084
    and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827136090

As for a case, it's pretty much up to you!

    wow thx for suggestions.

is tehre a smaller HDD i could get for cheaper cos 200 gb is a lot more than i need. 100 gb would prolly be fine
    trying to minimize costs :/

and i think i have a PSU lemme go see if i can find it...

ok its not very good :/ lol
its a king win dual fan 350W you guys have suggested 500W so i guess ill get one of those
