OK. Might go with LG because I know somebody who has never had one fail. Whilst were on the subject I personally do not reccomend Philips as I have had one fail before fail.

O.k. so let me get this right... There is really no need to have a CD drive if you have good DVD drives?

and a super multi (CD/DVD read, CD-R/RW, DVD+/-R/RW + -RAM + +RDL) which can be had for quite little, will do everything, save maybe HD-DVD and BluRay.

Those Hipers have to be the most distinctive PSU on the market. So they deliver the goods too? Not just good looks?

I'm in the market for a new computer and this is the best I've seen for the price. Not really a fan of Compaq but HP has brought their rep up a little bit. I've built systems before but its been quite some time so I wondering what I can build that would be similar to this machine or better around the $550 that I'll pay for this one.

    http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s..._type=product_detail&product_code=ER925AA#ABA

I dont need a super machine just one that is pretty efficient for burning DVI videos that I record and also able to take burning to 2 or 3 drives simultaneously without lockin up. Any advice guys?

768MB of RAM and an X200 Graphics chipset rules gaming out right off the bat for that system. The 3700+ is a good processor, but that's about all that's good, other than the amount of storage space, but for cost reasons that'll probably be a Maxtor so it'll be noisy. $550 is still a fair amount for a system like that.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539 - Athlon64 3700+ $105
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131569 - Asus A8N5X - $85
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102688 - X850XT Graphics card - $122
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440 - 2x512MB Corsair RAM - $90
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817101508 - Tagan PSU - $55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811146002 - NZXT Guardian Case (example of a well-made inexpensive case, there are plenty others to choose from) - $77
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152025 - Spinpoint 250G - $76
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152060 - DVD Writer $45

That lot comes to about $650 INCLUDING delivery, so not much more than that Compaq, and it will be far better in every way imaginable.

Yeah just descale the graphics a bit, or drop the hard disk size down a bit.

Someone yesterday told me that the 3700+ is a superior processor to the 3800+ because of the larger 1MB cache on the 3700. This didnt sound correct but figured i would ask about about it?
