Not sure it this is the right thread to ask this question... but I have just ordered two Benq 1655 w/ solidburn tech. which states there is no need to deal w/ firmware. Can some one tell me the pros and cons of a drive that has the solidburn tech. and a drive that needs the firmware up dated all the time?

    @herrick - for solidburn etc it's been discussed here previously - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/330512
and in the huge docTY thread too if i recall correctly.

as to firmware, i'd still keep firmware updated now and then. I personally don't mess with solidburn settings anymore/or use qsuite software since i bought the drives, so can't remember what the default settings are or what my settings were last set to (edit - i almost can, i rebuilt my burner pc so no qsuite even installed); i just burn and go..as i only use top notch 'Verbatim TY' and normal Verbatim i don't have to worry about settings

there is no point of buying 2x 7950gx2
cuz in most games perfomance of single card would be the same w/dual
7900gtx sli and x1900xtx crossfire has better perfomance than ^^^
and with 480w psu ,you can say bye-bye to your 1000$ for gpus
u need at least 550w for sli or crossfire

I am in waiting for two Benq 1655s, but still need two more drives for how I want to set things up. I was going to get all of them Benq 1655s but thought it would be more profitable to play around with some other drives at a simulior price range. Can anyone suggest two more dives that will work well. I was thinking maybe a Lit-on because Ive heard some good stuff about their drives? They do not really need to be lightscibe or dual layer beause the benqs are both. Thanks you people here in this form and Doc TY have helped me with much and I am very happy with the machine you guys have help me build though out the couple of years roaming around this site... came to the point that this thread and Docs are a health of info to partake in... you guys are great! Keep up the good work.

herrick, if you aren't going with the Plextor drives then YES Lite-On would be your best choice

Looked at the Plextors and they are kinda exspensive...Im just a poor boy try'en to get by. I did not see after hrs. of looking a plextor under $50.00- So I was try'en to find a Benq 1650... is there a Lite-on that does the same for cheaper???

I can recommend an NEC ND4570 drive, that was very cheap and I have seen hundreds of good reviews of them. Mine's fine, in any case!
Nissan's system is a bit skewed. I'd recommend:
    Athlon64 X2 FX-62 w/ Zalman CNPS9500 cooler & Arctic Silver V - (£564+£35+£7=£606)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_AM2_X2.html (bottom)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Zalman_CPU_Coolers.html (3rd)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Thermal_Materials.html (2nd)
    2x1GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400 CAS4 (£217) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Corsair_XMS2_Memory.html (5th)
    Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe (£106) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_AM2_Asus.html (5th)
    500GB WD Caviar SE16
    250GB WD Caviar SE16 (£214) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Western_Digital_SATA.html (9th and 12th)
    NEC ND-4570 DVD+/-R/RW/RAM/DL etc. (£23) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/DVDRW_Drives.html (9th)
    ATi Radeon X1950XT-X (singular) (£329) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/X1950_Series.html (2nd or 3rd)
NZXT Lexa case (£88) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Other_Cases.html (bottom)
SB Audigy 4 Sound card (£36) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Creative_Sound_Cards.html (bottom)
Hiper 670W PSU (£88) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Hiper_Power_Supplies.html (one from bottom)
Delivery for that lot will be somewhere around the £20 mark. All in all it adds up to £1727.

    Why an amd rig?
Intel honestly has the better proc right now..
now even i root for the underdog.. but the underdog is going to act like the underdog sometimes..

the conroe system will be cheaper.. and better..
the amd fx62 is stupid personally.
but i am currently building an intel system built around the 4mg core..

the um.. the 6600 i think

that will stomp all over an fx62..

i think you are just getting am2 to wait for k8..

    have fun with that..

and their is no reason for the nvidia.. get an X1900XT and you will be good.. and make sure u get the ATi 3200 chipset..

THAT would be a kick ass system!

Yeah, I think you're overestimating the Conroe a bit. The E6600 will only match an FX62 not beat it, overclocking it'll do better, but it takes an E6700, X6800 or X6900 to beat one stock, and those cost too much compared with the FX62.

    NOT true..
    the 6600 cost 350.00 ish..
the FX62 cost about what? 820.00 at newegg!!

I dont think it is worth 450.00 dollars just to get equal performance..
    SERIOUSLY..

if it means that much to you get the 6800.. that will kick the FX62...

    seriously..

    amd needs a new architecture..

now dont get me wrong i am a huge amd fan..
but come on people this is just plain arrogance.

but you building an conroe system will be better than the amd.. and will give you more money to invest..

    btw: Crossfire is better..

if you want me to expain.. go to tomshardware..

it describes what crossfire is.. and i dont know how sli works.. but the sli from what i have herd.. does not offer that much of a performance increase..

I wrote about disliking dual graphics set ups once, and got flamed for it so badly I'm just about cooling off now. In my opinion, SLi is slightly better performance wise, but neither are fantastic, both with certain games they fail to work at all in. SLi performance goes up with resolution, as does Crossfire, but crossfire maxes out at about 70%, whereas SLi will carry on all the way to 110-120. Crossfire is more user-friendly, not needing two identical cards (people who moan about crossfire's external cable, come on, get real, how can that possibly bother you) and is very attractive in some games, beating SLi. But on the whole nVidia has dual graphics in the bag.

I wouldn't recommend the FX-62 that much either, bar to "money is no object and I want an AMD" users. The 4600+ and 5000+ are very viable options over here, however.

sorry to say.. but until amd comes out with somthing better..
edited by ddp to BUILD a amd rig.. that does not mean you cant update a 939 or am2 but.. a new rig should be conroe with price difference..

anyone price vs. performance should go with conroe..

unless they are that headstrong with amd..
