You're very welcome. Hiper PSUs being UK designed I'm not certain whether the 730W unit is available in the US yet, if that's the case, maybe an enermax galaxy, but if you're after $800 then you should have said. A 7600GT is a midrange card, far from top end, but if you want to use that, the normal Hiper Type-R 580W unit will be absolutely fine.

The absolute best available? Well I'll try and put them in order of performance:

    7950GX2
    X1950XT-X
    X1900XT-X
    7900GTX, X1900XT (about even)
    X1900GT
    7900GT

In short, an X1900XT beats a 7900GT, but an X1950XT-X beats them both, and a 7950GX2 beats them all (but only just and not always, get the 1950 to be sure)

Following up on my last question about HDD; I found two drives from WD and am not sure of the differences. The Western Digital Caviar RE WD3200YS 320GB and the Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KS 320GB are very similar drives, but the RE is said to be more durable. What are the differences and for constant use which would be better?

    Thaks

With hard disks, the SE16 is a very fast drive, and I've not heard of any major reliability issues with it. It's also very quiet, which is a plus. As for the sound, my Audigy SE is pretty good for all of £17. It can do 7.1 24-bit EAX if it needs to, and it sure beats integrated sound...
With DVD drives I tend not to recommend Plextor since they're so much more expensive and yet I don't find them any better than the competition. The NEC ND-4570 I use has like 5/5 at newegg over something ridiculous like 700 reviews, and mine cost a teeny £24 versus £67 for Plextor drives. US prices are the same in that respect.

Being someone who has actually used both the NEC burners and a quality Plextor burner, I am probably better placed to make a recommendation than someone that hasn't used both.
The difference in the Plextor drives is apparent when using the correct tools that show the actual burn quality on the disks, rather than just using the naked eye.
There is no doubt that as a cheap burner, NECs are very good, they are reliable and use almost all media without a problem, and don’t cost much.
There is also no doubt that if you want the burns to be better quality, and have the life span and compatibility associated with that, then Plextor are a better bet.
As with everything, you get what you pay for.
But to get a good Plextor, pay the money, as the cheaper end Plextor units are just
    re-badged units.

Sam – Taking the feedback from buyers at places like newegg is hardly a scientific way of looking at whether a drive is any good.
It will show you the DOA stats and failure rate if you’re lucky, but as 98% of buyers are pretty clueless to anything technical, it’s not a very clever pointer to quality.

I would suggest interested parties look at sites like Club CD Freaks where the depth of knowledge on the quality of the various drives is more specific than somewhere like AD.

I too dislike using newegg as a quality rating, but 5/5 for 700 or so reviews is very rarely achieved. I also think Plextor drives are a bit better, but not three times the cost better. Apparently Benq burners have a very high burn quality, but having owned two benq burners in the past, I can honestly say their build quality appalled me. I hope they're better now.

BigDK , the Plextor valueline are rebadged benQs you want to get the Premium line thoses are true Plextor.

I have used Plextor drives for many years and think there will worth the money the PX-716As i have are no longer being made but you can still buy the PX-716SA sata drives. i to agree you get what you pay for

You're using the same Plextor as me, it's a quality piece of kit.
I'm not sure about bad build quality of some Plextors, as this is only the second one I've had, the first was a re-badged BenQ, so I swapped it as soon as I found out.
Running a PIE test I get a typical max of 12-13 PI Errors on a 4x burn to TY03 disks on the PX-716A.
Considering the standard is 280 it shows how good a burner it is.

They're not bad, they're just more expensive than I think they're worth.

You're entitled to your opinion, no one is trying to make you buy one, so you needn't worry too much about it, just stick with the NEC.

Off hand does any one know if BENQ make a sata drive... I could not find any where a 1655 in a sata hook up? Ran out of IDE spots but have plenty of Sata left. Thanks for your time!
