    Sure, you can rip the dvd, encode it into divX, rip the subtitles, and then play the two files with a Player... But how the hell do you make it one file? How would you go about encoding both the ripped vob and subtitles file as one AVI.. I don't care about the quality, i don't care if you think it's better to have two files, i want one file...

    yeh get the dvdx program and it will give you the opportunity to encode the film to one avi file

    Yo; Gordian Knot does subtitles.
    Don't ask me how, I don't use them, but GKnot does what you require!
    The program used is VobSub, included in GKnot rippack, or maybe you could get it and work it standalone... ?
