I can vouch for most of that really, but instead of the FX-60 you could save yourself a few bob and get an X2 4400+ and overclock it by adding a decent cooler and upping the memory to TwinX.
An Athlon 64 FX 60 A Radeon X1900 Crossfire Four Sticks of Kingston 512MB memory Unknown Soundcard Unknown MotherBoard A 500 watt power supply. A CD-rom drive. (Of course. >_>) A DVD-ROM Drive. A really nice case, or something. That's about it, as I really only know a lot about Processors and Video Cards.
CD-ROM and DVD-ROM to Dual layer dvd writer and dvd-rom, they're obvious, as is having a good asus mobo. Good to see you've picked crossfire. Not being an ATi fanboy, but i think it has more potential. oh and 4x1GB RAM, not 512 sticks! A dream PC is a no compromise affair!
@ Sammorris what cooler would you recomend? It doesn't have to be silent but it needs to be quite quiet
For coolers I'm not sure, something by Zalman preferably, but not having a really meaty CPU at present, I don't need a really meaty heatsink.
Ok IVE HAD xp 64BIT eD FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS HERE IN SOUTH AFRICA AND ITS NO BETTER THAN XP 32BIT.COME ON YOU'RE IN THE STATES AND YOU DONT HAVE IT YET.THATS SHOCKING.KRIKEY ILL PROBABLY GET VISTA BEFORE BILL GATES DOES.
Oh and having nore than 2Gb of ram wont make any difference cos Win Xp can only pick upabout 3 or 4 gigs depending on your MB and if you wana run dual cpu's you HAVE to use NT4 or Server 2003, and neither os have driver support for games.Basically it will be useless running dual cpu's.
XP pro will support 2 CPUs, but not XP Home. X64 isn't nay better than the x86 version because there aren't any drivers and compatible software for it. The overall concept is better, but only for the applications that are supported. We could have x64 but choose not to.
The Ultimate Dream Computer [bold]VIDEO CARD[/bold]...Well Just for games, Asus with its brand new Extreme GeForce 7800 GT Dual (x2) http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/14/sneak_preview_of_the_nvidia_quad_gpu_setup/
this is a quad config not a dual, and the a single GTX wont beat it. only in an sli config, (and just about) http://www.hothardware.com/printarticle.aspx?articleid=736
duh Forgive me for being cynical but an average 10% difference above one £300 card when using two £550 cards to me doesn't sound like value. Besides, the compatibility of two of those things actually wasn't great. I'd much rather stick to my 80% of the speed single card, none of this quad GPU business, more trouble and money than they're worth.
Lol I know what u mean, adding GPUs is a quick way to more power for graphics for higher resolutions, it is better to develop better GPUs, even dual core 1s? But I wouldn’t mind the quad set up just for games, forgetting about the price that is… Dream system, Until something better comes out
But an expensive way! Dual core GPUs is an interesting thought, I wonder... Problem is, load balancing isn't really as necessary for GPUs since the number of different operations they perform is quite low, just raw graphical power.
I got my ATi Radeon X800 for $150, but it don't fit in my motherboard so i'm lookin to buy a new that as well :*(
Someone wasn't paying attention. Lol dw I got caught out by that once. Never buy something from a link via kelkoo. Go via the website's categories from it's home page afterwards.
