Better? I'm curious as to how you can qualify a PSU that's only 625W and costs over 100 pounds better. At high load levels I highly doubt they'll be quieter than the Corsair, and given the immaculate build quality of the Corsair units, what else is there to improve on? Looks? The only vote that goes in its favour is that it's modular, and if you want a 620W modular power supply, then just get the HX, that's pretty much the same price as the 750W TX. The Rampage Formula is an unquestionably good motherboard, but as I've discussed with many, it is only necessary for an extreme overclocker. The sort of overclocker who is probably looking at watercooling or compression. On air cooling the temperatures will become a limit far sooner than the motherboard will be - or at least they will be with a Quad core CPU. Are two 2GB memory modules really better than 4 1GBs? I hear a lot of grumbles at how little they will overclock. Considering the system I've posted comes in at £25 cheaper, not only with a significantly faster GPU but also a good keyboard and mouse included as well, the 'advantages' you're posting are almost splitting hairs.
sam go around the web and find the new king of 600W PSUs the most stable and QUIETEST, the Modu 82+ series. and they will reach atleast 500FBS, the limit on aire cooling due to voltages. and if you see mort, he has a huge OC WITHOUT WATER..:O xD you would get over 3.6 with this board for the Q6600. and a case is the most looked at part, bar the monitor (kb, mouse arent looked at that much, unless you actually look at the Kb when typing, which i do not (although my spelling mistakes can tell you that xD)
The acoustic test results of the Modu82 are impressive, primarily for the idle load result of 19dB, versus the Corsair's 21. However, in the average PC the power supply is going to be inaudible behind the din of the graphics card, and that goes for either of the two we've picked out. The one trump card it does have, however is the quiet operation at 400W. The TX 650W doesn't have this, but the HX 620W does, so the Enermax still isn't that groundbreaking for most people - what is groundbreaking, however, is the price. Spending good money on a PSU is always wise, but over £100 is bordering on the ridiculous. I'm willing to bet that the P35 board can get a Q6600 to 3.6Ghz as well. As for the case, it's personal opinion. You're willing to pay an extra £100 because you like the look it gives. A lot of people seem to prefer the nasty blue LED type cases that cost pittance...
yeah, cases are normally personal preference. and i love the LEDs, thats why i love the LianLI PC-80 but my utmost fav case is the TJ07. i dont think i will fall inlove with a PC component ever agian
Heh, I do know how you feel. I've still yet to see a case I like the looks of more than the ones I have now. Almost everybody who sees them agrees with me on that front, and the one that doesn't is an out and out Lian-Li fan... Looking further into things, the quietest PSU you can buy is in fact a KW unit! <Shock and awe> which is of course expensive (although not actually much more than the 625W Enermax). One wonders if they make a smaller version that's as quiet. Here are some results I found - I included an Enermax Galaxy for the lols, so you can see what typical 'extreme gamer' power supplies sound like. Quiet PSU standoff: Typical idle, 120W: 1. Enermax 625W, 19dB 2. Zalman 1KW, 20dB 3. Corsair VX/TX, 21dB 5. Corsair HX, 22dB 6. Enermax Galaxy, 30dB Normal Gaming PC load, 250W: 1. Zalman 1KW, 20dB 2. Enermax 625W, Corsair TX, 21dB 4. Corsair VX/HX, 22dB 6. Enermax Galaxy, 35dB Dual graphics Gaming PC load, 360W: 1. Zalman 1KW, 20dB (yes, still!) 2. Enermax 625W, 26dB 3. Corsair HX, 29dB 4. Corsair TX, 38dB 5. Enermax Galaxy, 43dB 6. Corsair VX, 44dB Quad SLI gaming PC load, 550W: 1. Zalman 1KW, 31dB 2. Enermax 625W, 37dB 3. Corsair HX, 43dB 4. Corsair TX, 44dB 5. Corsair VX/Enermax Galaxy, 50dB
we tried sli with two 9800gtx's and didn't get anything visually better and only about 700 on the 3dmark this is with expensive boards (we don't really bother with the cheap ones) but £200 for practically no real difference does seem a waste of money
so what would you prefer then? and were you drivers up to date. the new 175.16 WHQLs are out, but tbh i didnt install them as i have the 170.70 betas on.
See, it's things like this that make me less infuriated with crossfire - it seems SLI is just as troublesome.
both are as bad as each other IMO, jsut SLi is more widely supported (NTWIMTBP) but Xfire has XfireX and the intercompatibility
There are a few "the way it's meant to be played" games that not only run faster on equivalent ATI hardware, but also work well with crossfire too, so to be honest, I consider that meaningless these days - just as I do ATi sponsored games being better, it's all marketing and no meaning.
MARKETING....>-( im suer you have heard of a particular game that implemented dx10.1 that gave a huge boost to ATI cards...but then they were NTWIMTBP, and got told to remove the DX10.1 capabiites in their next patch, which jsut got released. m8, money talks.
Indeed, because if you saw how the DX10.1 features had been 'added' to the game, you'd want it removed as well.
care to explain? if its gives your competitors a boost, and you have had many chances to add it to your 2 year old tech, and your too lazy to implement, and you have a stake in the game, you would use that to your advantage. dirty tactics by nvidia, and it makes me support them less drivers and underhandedness..... i hope the 4870 comes in at less than £200 (its better than an Ultra (has GDDR5 512MB with a 512bit interface) and ONE 6pin plug)....im sold. unless the GTX280 is priced competitively (which i doubt) then its a no brainer.
Nope, it was the other way round this time, it gave ATI a sneaky 25% performance boost for the HD3870X2 by cutting out some things to render. How the tide turns eh?
I'll take the IBM Blue Gene/L any day lol! 131,072 processors, 360 trillion calculations per second--360 teraflops.
Uhh do I have this correctly? Isn't this the ultimate dream computer forum? We should be talkign about the best performance, not money and/or marketing techniques.
