I'm starting to burn vcd's. How long should it take to burn a 73 minute vcd in .avi movie? Will it take the full 73 minutes?

Depends on your CD writer's capabilities, but as we always recommend: whatever your CD burner can burn, don't burn faster than 4x, otherwise you're very likely to f**k up your CD. So appx. 74/4 == 18min 30secs + some additional time for lead-in/out.

Read through appx. 4-5 articles from here:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/

and through few posts in our forums. After that you'll realize that Nero is not the tool to use for video encoding, just for burning.
