I am trying to convert AVI to a recordable format. I have been trying to use TMPGE which does respond. However it tells me that I have more than 10hrs to wait till it has done its work . My PC is not likely to be borrowed for use by NASA but 10hrs !!! Can this be right please?

sometimes it can take a while to do that although i dont think that is the right time

how about using maintconcept Mpeg Encoder - it usually takes 4 hourse and a trial is available

    or

try using DrDivx which has excellent quality and a lot lot more options and control - trial available

or your problem could be that you have processes running in the background?

    or

Your Pc Specs tell me what system do you have?

WhenI tried to use TMPGEnc, it also took 10 hours. I have a VAIO, pentium 4, 2.4 ghz, 1024 DDR. From reading other specs, I thought I had plenty of power.
