Can you take a screnshot of my last post.. I want to see what it looks like because I have those 2 item sources blocked :)

Looking at it I think the problem may be with the way different browsers implement javascript. I have the full java installed, as I suspect does creaky, not just the minimal "web-java" stuff most people have for browsers.
is where the script is defined..
Is how it behaves.. It all looks fine, but there doesn't seem to be a trap anywhere to remember user preference. As the Doctor said.. it may be cookie related. (/me loads konqueror with cookie logging to see if that gives any clues) It seems to reset itself when the ads or rss feeds change.

##edit.. changed code tags to quote tags for the sake of the page width [IMG]

Apparently the script kept the sidebar hidden for only 24h. Now the cookie that sets its status, should stay in place for 600 days.

Just run your cookie cleaner and IT"S back!!! They are trying to cure the problem by putting a cookie in our computers instead of curing it on their end!! This doesn't fly to good with me!!!!!!!!!!
Move it or LOse it!!! It SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!

Ehh... Have we suddenly jumped back to 1997 when paranoid luddites ran a campaign against cookies without knowing what they were?

If you don't like the topic box, close it, cookie it sets, will keep it closed for good two years. Based on our stats, most people find the topic menu useful and its not going anywhere from the site's layout, at least until the next major layout change of the site.

Next layout change is in the plans for the first quarter of 2010. The whole site will be basically built again from the scratch

Which means you also have to login to all the sites that require logging in, etc :) Cookies can be read only by the site who set them, that's the nature of the HTTP protocol, so "tracking" anyone's web activities beyond the site the cookies were set by, is impossible.

Dude, what does it matter? Every time you come to this site, the cookie will be d/l to your comp. Problem solved, just don't clear your cookies till you leave.

DUDE!!! the problem was that i come to this site 5 to 10 times a day, and only sign in if i want to ask a question or answer one. I don't bother signing in every time DUDE!!! The bar kept coming back but now they have fixed it to stay off as long as the cookie is not removed> DUDE

Dude, ok! Either way, I still think you are being pretty petty about this. You're one of those guys that thinks the government is out to get you, huh?
