    Hi,

Just set up my new DVD recorder Chrissie pressie, Toshiba RD-97DT 160GB Digital DVD Recorder + HDD. Other than menus looking bit outdated (would make Win98 look futuristic!), reception and recording seem good, lots of functions, DivX certified so AVI discs play no probs.

However when tried disc I'd converted from AVI to DVD format with DVD Flick, got "Cannot play...May be invalid...please eject" message. Ironic, as played perfectly in old Samsung player I've just been banging on about in this very forum. It's not a huge deal right now as AVI files much smaller so preferred option (storage-wise anyway), but I'd still like the DVD option for potential use, situation will arise.

Any suggestions regarding a fix? Used Verbatim DVD+R discs. Can supply any file info required, just surprised DVD format doesn't play in new DVD player!

    Cheers.

Do you booktype the DVD+R to DVD-ROM? What burner do you have? If it is capable of booktyping, I'd try that. Some players don't like DVD+R's(I have an Apex that does, and a Sanyo that doesn't).

Machine plays/records both DVD-R and DVD+R. Plays AVI files from DVD+R no probs.

I'm using Ashampoo Burning Studio 8, only "expert functions" are ISO /UDF types, and creating bootable.

    ISO 9660 - Level 1
    Options:
    Level 2
    Windows(Romeo)

    No Joliet.

    UDF - 1.02
    Options:
    1.50
    2.50
    2.60

    Exciting, eh?

I burned a DVD+R from DVD Flick/ImgBurn last week but old Samsung player just ejected it, don't think I booktyped though. Then uninstalled as it screwed with existing Ashampoo burner (that I paid for!) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/730179

Can ImgBurn booktype an AVI file on my HDD and burn it? Sounds a good option, but I'll need to reluctantly ditch Ashampoo to avoid another crash. Didn't realise two burners would cause conflict.

You can only booktype a DVD-Video burned onto a DVD+R. You cannot do that with a data DVD(when burning an AVI).

Put one of those burned discs in, open ImgBurn and go into "Read" mode. To the right, you have information about the drive/disc. Scroll down to "Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):" .For BookType, does it say DVD-ROM?

That's what I suspected. I'll post back disc info tomorrow, need to do some uninstalling/installing first but gotta go out now.

    Thanks, cyprusrom.

Booktype is DVD+R according to ImgBurn. Assume should use Tools/Drive/Change Book Type function? My DVD writer manufacturer (ATAPI DVD A DH20A3P) not listed in program window.

IT WORKED! Cheers for that, cyprusrom.

As mostly burn AVIs and ImgBurn doesn't handle (as name suggests!) I'll need to reinstall Ashampoo, hope doesn't crash this time, but for now thanks again. Nice one.

What do you use Ashampoo for? To burn your AVi files as a data disc? ImgBurn can do that. It can also burn an audio CD...

Been using Ashampoo coz recommended and got cheap. Didn't realise from interface/guide that ImgBurn did data discs, thought just for TS etc.

Well I've just used it to burn an AVI movie in just over 1 min with excellent results! So Ashampoo can take a hike, some of the best things in life are indeed free.

Think that's me all set up and sorted for the foreseeable future (you'll be hoping!).

    Cheers.
