Just recieved my Starview 'The Box'.
Heading home later to take it for a spin - is it simply a case of plug in an search for channels or do i need to connect my laptop (iBook) to it and load software on to it. If so, the less techie the directions the better...
thanks in advance for any help.

The firmwa*e might have to be updated , are you in UK or Ireland cos there is different versions , you also need a USB adapter and a NULL MODEM CABLE to update the SV

    Thanks again Celtic71,
a Female-Female 9 point connector came with The Box.
i take it the USB connector is a USB-Male 9 point?
also, the loader is a .exe file, that probably won't run on a mac.
Is the handiest thing to do be get hold of a PC laptop and fire ahead that way?

    cheers big guy.

The cable that came with it is probally the rs232 cable which wont work you need the NULL MODEM CABLE

The USB connector is for the laptap cos most have no 9 pin port

Im not sure about a mac , but you can do it from a laptop , the handyist is to fo it from a PC

And im not a big guy , im a lady lol

you're still 'Tha Man' when it comes to answering my questions...
okay, 'Tha Man' in the most non-sexist way.
    much appreciated.
all going well, i'll still only have to plug in and play though

When you connect your cable and scart lead and turn it ON , you should see a Menu , select English > Installation > Choose your provider and do an automatic scan
It might find some channels etc , if it does , exit back out to viewing them , press Menu 1570 and enter the CAS menu , go down to EMU key and turn it ON , Exit back to see if channels update ,

If the b0x has version 2.60 installed you will not able to view channels and will need to update it ( Menu > System Information )

All works fine and dandy, thanks for all the help.
Just on another note, is it possible to change the channel order - ie have the usual channels up top of the list and in descending order of how i'd look at them. I started to re-arrange them the other night, but when i switched the box off my settings were lost.
    Any suggestions...?

If you go into the channel edit you can move them about, when you exit out it should save it in the order you left it. Don't press any of the preset order buttons (alphabetical or whatever) cause it screws it all up and you have to put them all back afterwards.

Yeah, they should be. Just make sure it says "Saving Channel List" or something to that degree when you exit out after putting them in order.
