sure. you can use the av cables from the vcr or the tv to the camcorder via the yellow plug. Check the manual about how to use the camcorder as a vcr.

It should be something like this:
    1. set camera to vcr
    2. press menu, set display in etc to lcd in menu settings.
3 press fn, select pg 3
    4. press rec ctrl
    5. press rec pause

You are ready to record once you start the vhs.

Another option is to use the pass through and not even record the vhs to minidv, but send it straight to the computer.

Can I also do the same with 8mm tapes. I also would like to transfer my 8mm tapes to my computer or mini tapes. Is it the same as VHS? I have also a 8mm Sony TRV-58. I realy appreciate your help. Seems easy. What kind of quaility you think I would get after both transfers? I would like to burn to DVD-R. I use iDVD and iMovie with my flat panel 1.25 GHZ with Panther.

Yes, you can do the same with 8mm tapes. Your quality should match that of the original recording.
